  1. Hell yes, WLRRR is my still my favourite damn album! There's just no fucking around whatsoever, it is a freight train. Shallows Low and How It Goes are my two top tracks from LOES. I played Shallow's for a friend, and he couldn't get over the fact that Matt doesn't sing past a minute or so through. Such a great contrast from his previous compositions. The only knit-picking I'd make with it is the 'sound' of the drums that come in with the horns at 3:14. It has that same muted/dull feel as a lot of the drumming on Vancouver.
  2. I got similar, 11th row dead centre ;) I am going to the QE Theatre show also, because it's just a such a great venue. Also considering the Kitchener show...
  3. Queen Elizabeth Theatre Thurs Nov 3. Row L, aisle Seat 23 ;)
  4. Yeah that is a pretty sweet jam, dirty riff.
  5. It's not that obviously about specifically bipolarity to me. I interpret the lyrics as dealing with the darker/destructive side of human nature in general, on a personal scale and collectively, and how difficult it is to navigate our day-to-day lives in the face of so much relative chaos the world over. Which IS kinda depressing...
  6. 90's was the best. Currently feeling the new Architecture in Helsinki. Also, can't get that new Matt Good record out of my f#cking head. Anyone heard it? It's pretty damn solid.
  7. Geez y'know it's up everywhere, you can DL it pretty easily... I wouldn't have your strength! It's SO. GOOD.
  8. I agree, 'How it Goes' is the best surprise on this record. However, the more I listen to LOES, the more it feels like a natural progression from AOB... or at least some of that album, like 'the rat who would be king' and 'i, the throwaway'. And also 'a long way down' from Avalanche. WLRRR was such a huge turning point stylistically, so much more direct and bare-boned. Rough, even. That sound has sustained and filtered through his records right up to Vancouver; I think Matt's come back around, ready to (as Nina Simone would put it) 'sit back and let it groove on it's own thang.' New musical chapter for real, I'm damn happy to hear it!
  9. Haha
  10. The album's dope. It's a LOT of fun, just go with it folks. It's feeling like a summer-y, city album... it feels like.. maybe those moments of brief clarity you have while pissing in an alley at the end of a night that just flew by.
  11. Pretty sure he mentioned somewhere that there'll be a keyboard added live for the fall tour. I'd love a small brass section, I don't see these songs having the same OOMPH without it. I hate that the reason for not touring with more musicians is the cost... a lot of my favourite bands tour with trumpets and sax and all that jazz, the projection can't be faked with a prerecording ;)
  12. Likely most of you are getting this through your FB newsfeed, if not here is the link to an album stream/interview with Mr. Good by Alan Cross tomorrow night: http://exploremusic.com/exclusives/matt-go...ngered-species/
  13. I was pretty stoked about 'born losers'
  14. Been enjoying half of the new Dears record 'Degeneration Street', as well as Braids' 'Native Speaker' - which you should check out if you're interested in hearing actually brilliant young musicians. Check out thier independent label Arbutus Records for the full skinny - Gobble Gobble, Pop Winds, Grimes... all smiles and bum shakin ;)
  15. I thought the same listening to it this morning for the first time, 'across the universe' came to mind... good song. I wish there was a bit more to it, but I'm rather pleased to hear matt bang one out rather than dragging one out. If I can relate this to anything in the catalogue it's kinda like 'oh be joyful', with that sweet palm muted riff that breaks before the final chorus ;) rooms was a really great collection... but i digress.
  16. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WANo0XfTp9U Stumbled upon this just now, posted last week. Neat!
  17. It was a solid set for what it was - the sound was excellent, and Stu was really on. I enjoyed his playing more than any other performance to date I think. Matt forgot some lyrics here and there, gave a good vocal delivery (didn't push it generally). Drummer was pretty into it, he was crisp. Who is that playing with them these days? I was hoping to hear a sample f SOMETHING from the recently recorded album, no dice  Still it was pretty awesome to the band for free! Especially considering they won't be back on the road till summer probably. I just want to take this opportunity to note that I find the 30+ yr-old male 'superfans' awkward to be around sometimes. When they sing in my ear. And laugh at every word Matt utters between songs. Especially when I'm sober. I'm just saying it makes me feel awkward, that's all - the guy to my left had a wonderful falsetto tho, I must say ;) There were way more than 100 people by the way, closer to 300.
  18. The video posted is pretty incredible, apparently featuring excerpts from the first LOTGA recording sessions. I just keep hearing Vermilion play over and over again in my head. And Indestructible. The man wrote some damn good bass lines ;)
  19. TROOO, thanks
  20. I recall reading somewhere that it was either this song or Dusk, to be included on AoB? Correct me if I'm wrong. I think this was a better choice, it's one of my favourites lyrically as well.
  21. I was effing giddy at times with the 'Jew Hunter' character, truly brilliant performance! Completely stole the show! Excellent cast, all in all. It was 2.5 hrs, but I could have easily sat through another hour. 100% entertained. Uhmn I will just chime in also and say I really don't see the point of comparing his films if 'better' is the loose criteria. I like Pulp Fiction.
  22. Understood. And I won't ask about the suspicious stains on the setlist either (!) haha
  23. Funny to have a cluster of bored members at tonite's show, half-unbeknownst. I enjoyed the set, a HELLUVA lot more than I enjoyed the last time I saw MG at Massey, which was the live album recording. They are a great band now, very comfortable and tight. I take back my reservations regarding Stu. The only regret I have of not going last nite as well is missing VNA. Highlights for me were Silent Army and Volcanoes. Nice to meet Alex & his friend Justice as well - hope you had a safe ride back to Barrie man, geez! Until next tour, fuckers! Can't come soon enuff ;)
  24. Well shit, see you there man!
  25. Hah I'm 5th row as well, seat 42 which is right of the stage by the aisle.
