This here is proof, for myself, that John Mayer doesn't in fact suck. He pulls this off quite well. Maybe he should just stick to doing covers and stop writing his own music. It might just make the world a better place.

Yeah, he could actually be pretty good if he wanted to. He is a brilliant blues guitarist too, but there's no money there. Instead he writes shittylame pop songs for 13 year old girls (and makes money).

I love that cover...I totally thought no one had ever heard it before..but I'm glad people are now hearing it. It's so simple...but that's why I love it. And John Mayer is a fantastic musician. Most people don't know that, but it's VERY true!

agreed, people always judge him because he writes pop songs, his arrangements are much more complex than most pop bands out there.

Have you heard "Kid A"? It sounds just like it. Maybe your just not a Kid A person.

Sorry but I think the only reason to cover anyone's music is if the original was lacking something. But doing a cover that is so similar to the original is pointless IMO

yeah i know everyone hates john mayer but he's always been a guilty pleasure of mine. i'm not really one for those 13 year old girl pop songs, but i'll listen to him do them. something about this voice, and he actually is a skilled guitarist.

 

you should check out his cover of Message in a Bottle which i actually love, and if you listen to the stuff he doesn't release you'll get a better sense of him.
