The movie was stupid so I don't know why the tv show wouldn't be. Then again Buffy always comes to mind...

Indeed. But I meant kill off one of the "main" characters.

(deep breath) I've been pretty disappointed with this season so far. The show could be doing just fine right now with out Kutcher and Grace but the writing has been just horrible. The earlier seaons, and even to an extent last season, were likeable because they at least seemed plausable in the sense that you could believe and appreciate what was happening to the characters. Now it's like a teen version of a Days of Our Lives comedy. They could have easily put some actual drama into it since we know with past seasons they've mixed the comedy and drama elements quite well (see episode where that angel dude visits Eric after he and Donna break up). Instead most of the dialog is now forced; most of the story is simply going for cheap laughs; and the characters are simply cliches of themselves without any actual depth now. Red just sits around calling people dumbasses; Hyde is somehow ok with being married to a stripper instead of Jackie; and the relationship between Randy and Donna is about as believeable as me hooking up with Scarlet Johanson. They should have killed one of the characters this season just to make it interesting. Seriously, the episode after could have been a showcase of great acting and writing. Kurtwood Smith has a great range when pushed and same goes for Masterson and whatever Donna's real name is. Well, at least they've done some good spots in other seasons. I haven't actually seen them, with the exception of Smith, in other shows or movies. But yeah, in short, not impressed so far.

Pushing For Nuclear Power Alternatives?
daniel_v replied to Crusader's topic in Politics and Debate: WRONG!
I think one thing that should be kept in mind about nuclear energy is that while it is touted as a clean source of energy, it's only in the creation of the energy that it doesn't create pollution. You've got to remember you have to mine, transport and enrich the Uranium in the first place to get energy from it. Article about nuclear And just for the record, the commercials I've seen in the last couple months are mindless fluff if they're the same ones which simply flash the words "clean, safe and cheap" on the screen. -

Same. I'm not a fan of Gravity, but in my opinion they somewhat redeemed themselves with HIPT. Half the songs were interesting at least, and the other half were pretty meh (coughpicturecough). I know I'm one of the few who think this but "Where Are You" was probably my favorite track released this whole year. Could have just been the timing of when it was released in my life but there's something about the song structure I just love. Was pretty bummed out that they didn't release "Vampires" on the new album. That track had some serious potential. -
Some live songs I couldn't find all of them but here are a couple with Dave preforming.

Thermal Depolymerization I'm writing an essay on peak oil right now and suggested responses to it. About a month ago I came across the term this thread is based on and threw it into a search engine. Anyways, I Thought I'd throw this up on here and ask if anyone else was aware of this process and had any opinions on the subject in relation to consumption rates of the world and how the first and second laws of thermodynamics might play into such a process were it ever adopted on a large scale level.

Can it be opened by anything else? Microsoft word, Acrobat Reader, etc?

Agreed. The opening score is amazing. The great thing about that movie was the way the story was written. Unlike most movies, there's no reflection for the characters to look at and understand the gravity of the situation. Normally there would be some kind of dialogue between charcters pointing out the hopelessness of their situations (e.g- one chatacter confronting the other about their drug addiction or someone deing and effecting the other characters they were close to, etc.) but here, there's nothing. The story just plays through and then at the end everyone is fucked. And it's that lack lacking element that makes the movie so powerful. It's not sugar coated; it's exactly how things probably are for most people under similar circumstances. If I ever have kids I'll probably end up making them watch the movie in hopes of scaring them shitless of trying drugs.

Warning: Spoilers Ahead I know I'm gunna get blasted for my nerd like analysis of the film but I've gotta get this off my chest. Some critiques: -Whenever you see Wormtail in the movie he has this stupid evil grin on his face. Wormtail is not someone who is happy in his position in the book; he hates being around Voldemort but doesn't feel he has any other choice. In all the scenes in the book he's in it's described how he seems fearful and at the same time revolted by Voldemort's presense; case in point- Wormtail is almost crying in the book when he helps bring Voldmort back to life. Even in the movie, Voldemort states that Wormtail only helped bring him back because he had nowhere else to go; but Newell either neglects to understand this when directing Spall or simply disregards it to cater to the audiences idea of an evil bad guy character. My problem with this is that, I'm guessing, in the 7th book Wormtail is going to have a rather large part to play in the end. At the end of the 3rd book, Dumbledore, or Lupin (I can't remember), points out that because Harry saved Wormtail's life, Wormtail is indebted to him forever because of the magical bond that is created between wizards when one saves another. There are many examples like this, which I'll talk about next, where Newell ignores important character traits, which have and probably will become quintessential in the coming books and movies. -Next, they completely destroyed Dumbledore's character. You would have a better chance of reading an erotic xxx sex scene between (use your imagination) than you would reading a scene where Dumbledore gets so surprised and over stressed that he almost harms Harry (I am referring to the scene where, after Harry's name comes out of the Goblet, Dumbledore runs at Harry and almost pushes him off his feet when confronting Harry about whether he put his name in) Dumbledore is not a character who normally shows agitation. Indeed, that exact lack of normal human anger or fear is the mystique that makes his character so likeable and interesting. But throughout the movie he is portrayed as this old man who's losing control and doesn't know how to handle it. Again, Newell completely disregards another character's persona in order to fit the atmosphere of his film. -Also, where did the triwizard tournament winnings go? How are George and Fred supposed to start up their shop next year without Harry giving them the money to do so at the end of the show? Where was Percy throughout the whole movie? How is he supposed to get in a row with his family after he gets promoted even after screwing up with Crouch? And speaking of Crouch- Crouch isn't some bumbling mumbling shmuck; he's a deeply troubled/masked, yet somewhat humble guy who was screwed up by his own lust for power and his son's subsequent betrayal. And then there's the whole other subplot about Rita Skeeter being an anamagus and Hermonie finding out about it and blackmailing her in the 5th book by using that information. How does that play out in the fifth movie now? (...lol, actually after reading that back to myself I suppose there's really no way they could have included all of that in. Unless of course they decided to create two movies for the book; which I did hear rumors that they were considering doing. But still, it was annoying) -Lastly, a lot of the film seemed rushed, especially the beginning scene where Voldemort kills that muggle up to the point where the other two schools arrive at Hogwarts. I would have had no problem with them making 2 movies for the book where they did one half in November and the other half in December if it meant them not getting so scissor happy with all the scenes and characters. So, before some of you get ready to tell me to remove the stick lodged up my ass, as I'm sure some of you probably are, I will say that overall, despite all the things I mentioned, I was still able to enjoy the movie. The three tasks, the Yule Ball, Voldemort's return and especially when Harry returns with Cedric's body, were especially well done. Of all the scenes in them movie, I found that one to be the closest to how I had pictured it in my head. Radcliffe does a really nice job of portraying someone who has just lived through his worst nightmare and everyone's reaction to it is believable. And, Alan Rickman, as usual, does a wicked job of portraying Snape. Also, I will admit I found myself laughing a quite a few of the interactions between the different characters. (e.g.- Rita Skeeter popping out of nowhere and photographing Harry and Hermonie hugging; Ron and McGonagall dancing in class, Harry accidentally spitting out his drink when he realizes Cho knows he's looking at her, etc.) Overall, if you're not a hardcore like myself, and haven't read the book, you'll probably love the movie. If you are, you'll like it but probably be pretty disappointed by all the changes made in the adaptation.

I think I speak for a lot of people around the world when I it's about time a movie like this was made. Anyone know the exact date it comes out?

2 questions: Does anyone know the setlist? And did Matt have anyone doing keyboards for the acoustic songs? Edit- Never mind the first question. I just checked mg.org and found it. Apparently the new song was called "Breath of a Nation. Setlist Breath Of A Nation Prime Time Deliverance Tripoli Apparitions Oh Be Joyful Generation X-Wing Can't Get Shot In The Back If You Don't Run Empty Road In A World Called Catastrophe

Hi there, I'm working on a cover for LBTMSD and was just wondering if anyone knows the chords Matt is playing half way through right after the intro lyrics and chords where he starts to sing "Ain't it something, ain't we something". It starts about 55 seconds into the song and it's the halifax version from 2002 that I'm working off of.

Maybe it was just because I was so far away from the stage (50 to 60 feet) but was I the only one who thought the sound quality was just shit? I could not hear a fucking thing from Christian's guitar the whole night. Then again it was an 8 dollar concert so...

Narcotic was supposedly going to record this one to my knowledge of what he said in the Arizona thread.

I would assume that was Dave playing the piano in All Together since he usually was the piano guy in mgb.

I liked it. Although, apparently when first approched with the movie the company (don't know which one it was) turned it down because Constintine wasn't white; he was Asian as in the actual comic book. Only when they decided to cast Keneau did the company agree to back it. Hollywood for ya.

I don't suppose anyone knows the set list?
