  1. Agreed. Hopefully this means that they won't be a one-album wonder. Well they've kind of already got 2... I think they're too unique or talented or something to be a one-album wonder. They've already got tons of good songs on Funeral alone.
  2. Well I dunno, I also like Champagne Supernova, Fucking in the Bushes, and Don't Look Back in Anger... are those all from WTSMG?
  3. Guy, what the hell? Hello Time Bomb is totally the most over-rated. It's still pretty good, but way over-rated.
  4. Come on guy, a serious fan's got em all. Well okay, a serious fan who had a bit of cash. Balcony: I picked up Lo-fi B-Sides in-store around here, it shouldn't be too terribly hard to find... check A&B, they usually have more of the less common stuff. HMV would be my second choice if it's a big one.
  5. Both versions are teh goodness. But Matt's especially so. Heh...Matt Good, teh goodness... hehe...heh..oh, I'm a loser... ;)
  6. Yeah, he doesn't get as much press as back in the Beautiful Midnight days, doesn't get featured on Much and such (heh), but he's definitely still here, known, and played. I don't know too many young Canadians who haven't heard of Matthew Good.
  7. I think it's only spam if it's pointless or your posting just to earn points. Usually I get like 2 points for each post or something like that.
  8. I couldn't find a topic about them in the first 6 pages and the search function isn't working for me. I just bought their album, and this I must say: Wolfmother = Led Zeppelin reborn. I do realize they are not as good and of course not as original, but I think they're the most accurate representation of Led Zep's spirit there is today. So what do you guys thik of the band.
  9. The first time I ever heard them, I was slightly interested, but then I didn't really like them. That happens with a lot of bands I now love. As of right now, Funeral is one of my most played CD's. My favorites are Neighborhood #1 (Tunnels), Neighborhood #3 (Power Out), Wake Up, Haiti, and Rebellion (Lies). I absolutely love the last three.
  10. People like this are fucking retarded. (Hopefully this isn't a PG-13 board. I doubt it.)
  11. Let's see... growing up I always listened to what my parents did. In the early years that meant awesome classics like The Beatles, The Band, The Eagles (Hotel California will always be my favorite 70s song), Santana, CSNY, Buddy Holly, Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, and so on. Later my parents got more into country, and I did too. I still really like Steve Earle, I think he's a great artist. When I was maybe 12 or 13, my parents started listening to new agey stuff, Yanni, Enya, native flute music and the like. I couldn't really follow, those kinds of music really don't excite me at all. I do like Robbie Robertson a lot, however. He successfully incorporates First Nations culture into great, listenable music. I followed the mainstream music for the most part, leaning towards rock. I think the first bands I took great interest in were MGB and Our Lady Peace. Radiohead was in there somewhere too. However I did listen to some crap as well... I always used to agree with the popular opinion (just to fit in... I was young and stupid), which was "Techno sucks!!!". However, when I heard Canadian dance group Love Inc's "Broken Bones" on the radio, that all changed. I began taking much more interest in electronic music, evolving from the poppy dance stuff like Love Inc, Alice Deejay and Ian Van Dahl, to Darude, Groove Armada, Fatboy Slim, Daft Punk, ATB, Chicane, and Solarstone, then eventually BT, Tiesto and Hybrid. For downtempo stuff I mostly just knew Moby and Enigma, but later on Massive Attack. When I met my first girlfriend, she got me into Led Zeppelin and U2, and a San Diego (her hometown) band called Pinback and opened my eyes to even more kinds of music... Bob Marley (though I knew of him before), Yann Tiersen, Eric Satie, A Perfect Circle, 311, Andrew Bird, Coldplay, Franz Ferdinand, Dave Brubeck, The Cure, Depeche Mode, The Doors, Steve Miller Band, Goo Goo Dolls, Smashing Pumpkins, and many more. However she disliked electronic for a long time and thus I stopped listening to it as often. She did introduce me to Thievery Corporation, though. I also think part of my change in tastes was the state of electronic music. I grew tired of the same old shallow club tracks, desiring music with more depth and originality. There are some good artists out there, but they are not common. Massive Attack and Hybrid seem to be the best. I still listen to the good artists, but I no longer follow the scene, mainstream electronic music is dying in stagnation. Some of the newer acts out there like MSTRKRFT are adding some originality though. Over the years I filled out my cd collection with the discographies of Matthew Good, Radiohead, and some of Our Lady Peace. A few years ago I began making a conscious effort to discover new music (and old classics), leading me to discover Spoon, DFA 1979, The Mars Volta, The White Stripes, Wintersleep, Constantines, and The Arcade Fire. I now also have the complete Led Zeppelin discography as well as the greatest hits of Pink Floyd. That pretty much just described the contents of my cd case, to which I've just added The Raconteurs and Wolfmother. I enjoy many types of music, classical, world, jazz, country, chillout, house, trance, breaks, classics from the 50s to the 80s, 90s rock, indie, new prog rock, punk, and experimental. About the only genres I can't stand are pop (Britney, etc) and most hip-hop. My loves are indie and heavier rock (but not gothy angsty stuff), and a touch of electronic. The only things I regret are Aqua, Mariah Carey and Nickelback. That pretty much sums it up. Heh, sorry about the essay.
  12. Hell yes! I love Tournament of Hearts. And if you guys say it doesn't hold up to their other albums, I'm going to die of joy when I hear them.
  13. I dunno about that, but overall OK Computer has the most consistently good songs.
  14. It is hard to choose, I'm going to have to condier it for quite awhile, and it depends on my mood. Right now I'm leaning towards The Bends or OK Computer, though I'm considering Kid A... wait, hold up, did Kid A come AFTER OK Computer?! So Thom Yorke can really sing, eh? I'm impressed!
  15. I absolutely love Wintersleep, they are the perfect band to me. Rocking, melancholy, deep, melodic, lively and lighthearted (from the sound of Weighty Ghost), stark, intense, innocent, poetic. Unique vocals, perfect instrumentation, great writing. Okay, I'm done gushing now. I'm really sad I missed that Van show, I wanted to go but had to work, from the looks of the Victoria video, it was a damn good one (and the one I really should've gone to, rather than Van). Almost brings a tear to my eye. And gets my toes tapping too. If Weighty Ghost is relfective of their current work, I am really looking forward to the next album. I love that about them. What's almost more amazing is how each album so far has had a very distinct sound, yet is unmistakeably Wintersleep. Edit: This is not meant for my ears. Not yet. I wish to be absolutely blown away when they put out their next album.
  16. Steady As She Goes is pretty good, but not enough to warrant buying the album... what about the other stuff? Heh, they're guaranteed to have better drumming than The White Stripes at least. Edit: I'm hearing Level right now. Not sure I like the synthy effects stuff but the rest is pretty awesome. You guys might be on to something here... Further Edit: Okay, listening to Hands now, and I'm loving the Beatles-esque singing, and how so far all their songs rock but are still really laid back. I think I'm gonna have to make a trip to HMV tomorrow.
  17. i agree totally. i had led zep and pink floyd. so overrated. Guy, Led Zeppelin rocks the frikken socks off every band out there. For the first 4 or 5 albums, at least. ;) I always liked Oasis, but I never bought an album. They were kind of one of those cool bands that was just always there but never in the spotlight. So where's a good place to start? Popular opinion seems to state (What's The Story) Morning Glory.
  18. Hrmm...such mixed reviews. Why does everyone do that to me? They get me all stoked, only to smash it to pieces... I like Pilate, especially the older stuff. Caught By The Window (the song) was horribly overplayed. I guess I'll check this out at least.
  19. I have no idea if that's allowed... but it really doesn't take that long to get a bunch of NF moneys... When I logged in the other day after not really visiting here much at all lately, I realized I had almost 150. And I've got all of what... 17 posts? Of course, they don't tolerate spam for the purpose of increasing your funds.
  20. Hah, well considering I didn`t hear the complete radio show, I only have the song excerpts from it, I didn`t know that. But thank you for your highly informative reply. ;)
  21. Oh, come on guy! You expect me to choose just one? Well given my choices, I will have to pick Born To Kill, as it has always been one of my favorites.
  22. I'ma hafta say, overall I like the ballads more. They're moving, make me feel more emotion and that's always a good thing for me. Of course I love the rock as well but something about Strange Days and So Long Mrs Smith just works so well for me. Edit: Seeing the comment above, I agree completely. The acoustic Generation X-Wing is perfection.
  23. Apparitions video on Much Music. Finally got around to buying Beautiful Midnight and Underdogs together a couple years later and I was hooked for good. Haven't missed an album since. And of course I picked up the previous releases as well.
  24. Most of them are so good, and I don't know a lot of the rare ones, but I'll have to say my favorites right now are the original 'Born to Kill' and 'Flight Recorder From Viking 7'. 'Can't Get Shot In The Back' is good too, however, I believe I've just decided my all-time favorite is 'So Long Mrs Smith'.
