Josh Ritter In Toronto
lyuan replied to lyuan's topic in Music In General: David Bowie Appreciation Station
Totally agree with the happiness... I think the only work I could use to describe his performance is 'unstoppable'. L -
Just wanted to see if anyone went to the Emm Gryner + Josh Ritter show at the Phoenix on Tuesday night!! Any thoughts? I was really, really impressed with a lot of his new material, and his attitude and showmanship was great... L.

I think think they swichted back to flash because the realized people with QTPro could actually save the file ;) L.

Hey Guys, I just saw this posted on Matt's site - I'm pretty sure someone stuck it in another thread, but I think it deserves its own ;). What do you guys think of Matt covering those two songs he's mentioned? Larry
-
Someone is definately out to get me; I tried downloading the song from the store again from another computer, and it STILL doesn't work. BAH! I think it's all a big hoax, and everyone is in it but me...HAHAHAHAH L.
-
I STILL haven't heard it yet!!!!! BTW Guys, how do you guys link to the NF Store? When I click on the link to the forum, it takes me to the forum login site. I have to manually type in the IP (temp IP) of the form with the ?act=store at the end to get to it... :\
-
I think it would make a cool bonus track at the end of a CD, and just change the blurb at the end to "I love this f'n album!!!"
-
Done - In the meantime, is it possible for someone to send me that track? I'm at work, and I don't know what else to do to pass the time ;) L.
-
No actually, I tried to download Black Helicopter - and it let me download the file, but then it says "The Archive is Corrupted" when I try and open the file. ...Poo!!!! L.
-
NF STORE NOT WORKING!!! ;) L

I think all of his songs are crap...I don't even know why I'm posting in this forum. I especially don't like 'don't drink the water'... ;) <joking> Just a few comments on what I've been hearing so far, and my personal feelings about the songs. IAWCC - I like this song. I don't listen to the lyrics but I do like the musicality of the song. There is more strings than what people are used to I think. I like the transition from the verse to the chorus. Rat - It's slow, and repetative. I am not a HUGE fan of this song, but I do see the draw in it. I don't like the lyrics, especially at the beginning where he talks about blind squirrels and nuts. However, what I really do like is the 2nd chorus where the song really opens up into pounding guitars and drums at the end. I think I appreciate it partly because we are starved of that throughout the rest of the song. It's a great contrast. Blue Skies - I really like this song. And although it's not been mentioned too much (or at all?) here, I'm mentioning it because it has been brought up to me as being repetative, much like Rat. The song is repetative melodicaly, but the harmonics change - the same melody is used as different devices in the musical phrase. Gord Downey (Hip) tends to use this a lot as well in his music. For some people, it's agonizingly repetative. For others, it's not. I think it actually make you listen to the words a bit more. Advertising - I think people like this song because it's catchy. It has a great chorus; almost architypal chorus. It also sounds very sinister, so people think he's singing about something important. I don't mind it - like Capn' Rocket said 'slower doesn't mean deeper', but it can make it appear deeper. In the end, it is all preference I guess. I don't need a song with a deep message sometimes. The message *IS* secondary. If it were the most important aspect of any song, people would just listen to songs once, since they got the message. The most amazing thing about music is that at any given point in time, it can make you feel a certain way, remember time past, or the same music can make you feel completely different from when you heard it before. All of Matt's music makes us feel something, and that's sort of why we are all here right? L.

Hey guys, I'm currently hosting the Toronto show - please PM me if you want the videos and I'll send you the info. While I'm here, I have a request of my own: In the Toronto show, MG played 'Hello Time Bomb' and slowed it down at the end to a ballad tempo repeating the chorus over and over again. I think this is the best part of the live performance of the song. Unfortunately, in the Toronto video, this part is cut off. Does anyone have either a video / audio of that song in its entirety? If so, could I grab it off you? Mercy Buckets! L.

I totally agree with you - it was in part the equipment, and in part my ensemble was playing this for the 2nd time in their lives..hahahah - I hope I get a chance to record ths properly, if I ever get the opportunity to be in a studio. ;) Long ways off from that though..hahahah Thank you for your post though - and everyone else too - it means a lot coming from this forum!

I love Apocalyptica - I actually went to see them when they came to Toronto. It was a great show! I absolutely love their cover of 'Nothing Else Matters'. I like the Kronos Quartet as well - they're featured on the 'Requiem for a Dream' soundtrack - no covers, but very 'crunchy' low end string section...I love it!!!! L.

Thanks guys - I really appreciate the feedback ;) - I think I might just do more! How do I go about sending this to Matt? I do wonder what he would think...

Hey guys, Being a Matt Good fan, as well as an developing musician (dare I call myself that here??), I rearranged one of my favorite MG tunes for a piano, two violins, and a guitar. It's not a very good recording; it's very raw, and the sound levels haven't been tweaked. This was also done in one take since it was in front of an audience. Anyway, I thought it had its moments. So, in hopes that some of you might also recognize those moments in between the noise, I share with you this instrumental arrangement of Matthew Good's 'Strange Days'. By the way, that would be me on the ivory. - Don't worry about bashing it!!! Matt I am not! ;) http://www.ninjastars.ca/music/Larry%20-%2...ange%20Days.mp3 Larry

Hey, Yeah, Dan mentioned in his e-mail to me that he didn't record those because he had them already, and he wanted to save space for less common songs.
-
Hey guys, I've got the vids now, as promised. I don't know if I can / allowed to put a direct link here. I have it on an FTP - please PM me, or e-mail me at - [email protected] if you want the links. Cheers, L.
-
Dan, Sounds good - I'll be happy to host it for MG, and the people at the show. I'll let everyone know as soon as I get the files, and you guys can PM me if you want the link. Thanks again dan! L.

Can someone get me these files that Dan upped? I have a server here with a 3 x T1's, and would be glad to host it. PM me, or e-mail me at "larry at dapasoft dot com"

Hey Guys, I thought the show was the most energetic one I've been to. Certain parts of the show were electric. Avalanche remains my favourite live song. The only way I can describe it is EPIC. My friend and I decided to start the K-I-C-K-A-S-S cheer before the encore, and it didn't take the long for the place to catch on. We went nuts when they came on and played Giant. Everyone around us went nuts. It was a night to remeber for sure. It felt shorter than his previous shows. I actually missed Primtime and Tripoli (cry), how were they? Did anyone record it? L.
