well, its not the most memorable moment of my life, just when it comes to matt good related stuff.

i spent the day at the warehouse studio when he recorded "anti-pop" and a few other songs for AoB. and some kids were there singing the chorus... rich, ian, dave, matt, jennifer, warne and his son and i got some chinese food delivered, we threw stuff out the window of the recording studio onto water st. later i asked him if i could take his M3 Coupe for a drive, and he told me i'd have to beat rich at a game of hockey on playstation 2 or whatever. long story short, rich kicked my ass like 12-4 and all i got was the anti-pop chorus written out by matt on a huge posterboard, with a mistake in the lyrics on the other side that said "see, this is what centennial english department taught me" and his autograph. later, ian offered to sell me some acid. also, i stood by as ian smuggled a bunch of porno magazines out of the studio, and matt taped this message to brian adams on the recording room floor: "HEY BRIAN, WE STOLE YOUR FUCKING PORNO" right before i left, we all yelled as hard as we could "LEN SUCKS" as that shitty one-hit-wonder-summer-band was waiting on the top floor for their studio time. that was a cool day.

i think its more the excess of self administered orgasms that's making you laugh histerically... dont worry, i went through that phase when i was 13. it passes.

bullshit. my parents are also american. my dad currently resides in colorado. i, as a child was a resident of the US and even served 18 months in the US Navy after i graduated highschool, even though i had spent more than 80% of my life in canada. as a product of america, i was given the choice to claim either american or canadian citizenship. a myth that some people like to claim as true is that people have "dual citizenship" this is true until you reach the tender age of 21, the day you become a full fledged adult (according to the US government). therefore, you are only to pay taxes in your home country or a country where you operate a business. i made my decision before i was 21... and ironically, still serving on the USS Abraham Lincoln. i claimed full canadian citizenship 28 days before my 19th birthday, and now never have the choice again to be an american citizen without applying for it.

well said ashley.

there were no hardcopies available, if that's what you're asking. only in MP3 format.

the road to hell is paved with the best of intentions. and the reason why i asked was just because that was the name of my journal on the metro a while back, and it got a lot of hits... also, i used to use that phrase in my sales meetings alot.

if life was fair, we'd all be serving a life sentence. and, the rat... where did you get the title of your thread from?
-
americans are a very unfortunate group of people (no offense)

i used to work for an american company that had an office in downtown vancouver... most of the people i worked with were american, and more than half of them voted through absentee ballots. i asked them why they chose to vote for bush, and most of them said "no matter who we vote for, the next four years are going to play out the same" that being said, this thread is about as useless as dubya himself.

if this is the case, he would be considered an independant artist... which he is not. for example, underdogs was an independantly made album. matt and his band paid the entire cost out of their own pockets. the entire point of having a record label is so that he can be backed finacially. it's true that matt invests his own money into making the album, but he didnt fund it solely, otherwise it wouldnt have universal music logos all over it. universal pays for the recording of his albums and his videos.

obviously that scene had meaning... but just like the apparitions video, people read the lip movement and translated it.
-
actually i'm pretty sure its the other way around. i say this only because in the video, you can actually see matt say those exact words.

i was at the bar the other day and this house band was a cover of some old song and the lead singer had a cowbell, he was barely using it and right when the song ended he said "so how did you like that?" and i screamed "it needs more cowbell!" almost everyone in the place burts out laughing.... except for the insanely drunk people, who probably thought i was serious. also, staying on topic... i dont think he ever contemplated not making another record and that jenn talked him out of that thought. i remember him just not sure which direction he wanted to go in, musically.

and rod bruno, as well.
-
i think he just sings the first line and that's it.

the record company (in this case, universal) fronts matt the money, he spends it making the record, and then pays it back with sales and what not. last i heard, matt made around $0.25 per album (split between band members) and around $10,000 per show (plus all expenses paid for). the band members get their own seperate cheques for the shows, and also have to pay for their own food (outside the venue) and boarding (if needed). i know a girl who's friends with mark ollexson (keyboard on part of the avalanche tour) and he apparently made only $500 per show, and had to sleep on the tour bus' couch, as matt's luggage got the 5th and final bunk. so yes, touring is better for money making, but you cant really tour without a record. but you also have to keep in mind that matt makes money in royalties (whenever his songs are played for public listening, they pay a fee) and also on merchandise.
-
when matt is whispering in the girls ear he is directing her. someone transcribed it as saying "look at the woman. look at the van. woman. van, go save her." or something along those lines.
-
bingo. to add to this, the_rat_who_would_be_king was also the first person in this thread to note that ryan was also a factor in this recording. therefore, i highly doubt the song was purely about matt and his own feelings. but i guess this is the kind of ignorance you get when you put a bunch of hardcore matt good fans in a messageboard and ask them a question.
