"Toasteeee!!!"

Probably should use the Quote button then. Saves confusion.

Except that the acoustic/new stuff cd was only in the Deluxe release. Theoretically, had it been marketed to its fullest, the regular edition should have outsold the Deluxe edition. (That's going on the history that most people who by a Greatest Hits album are only somewhat interested in a band or performer.)
-
I'll preface this by saying that I think In a Coma is the best Greatest Hits package I've ever seen. Many packages, for example, leave desirable songs off, using the GH as a teaser to convince buyers to buy albums for the missing songs. Having said that, some issues that might have affected sales: 1) The package was designed with fans in mind. Definitely not a flaw, but designing for fans limits the pool of potential buyers. Which goes along with: 2) The marketing of the album almost entirely focused on the deluxe edition, again, with fans in mind. It never really told Joe Average why he should pick up the album. 3) When GH's hit the top of the charts, it's usually because the artist is still attracting significant popular attention. (Read: Eminem, Britney Spears.) Matt's popular attention has declined in recent years, and a GH is a difficult way to jump-start it. 4) I cannot even begin to guess what I would cut for them to make the album, but leaving off "Carmelina" and "Anti-Pop" may have hurt sales. While the new songs and "Pony Boy" were welcome nods for the fans, if you're not already willing to check out new Good material (read: Avalanche, WLRRR), you're probably not going to pick up the GH. However, if you heard and liked either "Carmelina" and "Anti-Pop" but not enough to buy Audio of Being, you might have picked up the GH to have them in one place. ---- The poll selection is slightly skewed: leaving off "Avalanche" and "Blue Skies" helped sales. Fans already have those songs and had a million other reasons to buy the album. Non-fans don't know those songs, and wouldn't have bought the album for them.

If anyone's still having problems, I think the YSI link still works: http://s36.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=0TMDQ1D...YX12P23JHQG198A -
And collect broken hearts for "life". On second thought, this could be pretty good. ;)

We need a Half-Life 2 mod to make the guy look exactly like Matt, and have Matt Good running around blowing shit up. Not sure how well that'd go over on the home front, though. Whatever happened to the days of the band-related videogame? I think Journey had a game... that sucked. Actually, I don't think I wanna know. There's probably a My Chemical Romance game in development. *shudder*

Nope. He made that himself. The store version is a mono capture off of what's on Matt's site. Here's a stereo version: http://s36.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=0TMDQ1D...YX12P23JHQG198A Anton - delete this if it's inappropriate. -

I wouldn't advise downloading that. It's a mic held against a speaker. In m4a format. Ouch. No offense, but I'd suggest leaving this kind of thing to people who have two soundcards. -

One last random thought for the night - I think it might be: "A hammer of styrofoam / Beating to the west" -

The first-gen's did (Intel Celerons). The X-Box 360 has PowerPC (IBM). ;) I was thinking "For X-Box COINTELPRO" as an allusion to people being wiped of caring about political action in favor of the X-Box. At first blush, the lyrics kinda read like a critique of people ignoring government actions in favor of simpler things like music and video games. The first verse almost sounds like: "Weeding to the west / Live the high way in your home" There's something weird about how he pronounces the first line of the chorus - it almost sounds like "For long, eh". (And I think it's "Are all I see".) -

Didn't Win To Get In The Ottawa Show?...no Problem
uglyredhonda replied to Ray_Gun's topic in Matthew Good
Is this an "I hear from a good source that this is true" suggestion, or an "I'm completely pulling this out of my ass" suggestion? Cause it sounds like the latter. Venues generally don't allow people in late in shows like that. I've been to free concerts where the band played their big single and half the crowd left, but the venue refused to let more people in. -
"You do realize there was music recorded before 1989... What is this? You're wearing the shirt of the band you're going to see? Don't be that guy!!" /possibly the best movie evar

Here's the entire broadcast - the same file that was posted at the top of this thread: http://s11.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=1T8NC3S...X9375R7PHTHH8T6

We're talking about the CFOX interview, right? He was playing live: they're different from what's on the album. (Example: he played "Oh Be Joyful" acoustically.) Sorry, not trying to start anything. Just seems a little surprising.

The key is having autorun disabled. It's enabled by default, and the autorun portion installs the software. Most copy protection formats only affect Windows users. (I somehow doubt the Escient Fireball runs Windows.) It's not actual copy protection like on a DVD. The CD format cannot be copy protected within the format itself. What they're doing is using CD-ROM tricks to act like copy protection. It depends on the type of "protection" as to what it does: one kind installs the copy protection drivers, another confuses the system with bogus CD-ROM data so that the device believes the disc is invalid. The problem is that some CD players don't know what to do with the CD-ROM data, so some CD players won't play the discs at all. And that sucks for people who might only have one CD player to listen to music on. Frankly, I think it's stupid. Record companies are penalizing the people who ACTUALLY BUY CDS. It seems like it will only push people toward illegal downloads. As silly as it might sound, I'm boycotting copy-protected discs. I don't even bother to download them. Too much good music out there to worry about the few handful that are copy protected. I just cross them off the list and move on to the next one.

First pass. Same story - the leaked 128kbps mp3 of "All Together" mastered: http://s38.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=0AIUU7T...KQ1HANNIFOP86YR Always harder to master piano/vox tunes - you end up with less to balance off of.
-
You can hear the piano in the original mix. I like it in its more subtle position in that version. For the sake of comparison, the leaked "rough mix" mastered: http://s12.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=2B4W414...4S0GJ51QI28PHP7 That's the 128kbps mp3 mastered to sound more like it might have on a CD.

Strangely, I've found myself able to keep the two separate. When his songs are political, they're oblique enough that it doesn't pull me out of the music. And if the political items on his website get a little overwhelming, I just don't check it out for a couple of days. I'll admit that his political views are often farther left than mine. But, at the same time, I've noticed that I've been more politically motivated/aware since I started reading his site on a semi-regular basis.

There's a guy in the UK who recorded three MG covers (which he hopefully won't mind me linking): http://www.mixmastermac.co.uk/steviemac/media.html
