Why did I only find out about this band NOW???? honestly, this is some of the best goddamn music I have heard in probably my whole life of listening to popular music. that's a strong statement, but I think its true. TAKEN FROM ALLMUSIC.COM: One of the strangest stories in rock history, the Monks were formed in the early '60s by American G.I.s stationed in Germany. After their discharge, the group stayed on in Germany as the Torquays, a fairly standard beat band. After changing their name to the Monks in the mid-'60s, they also changed their music, attitude, and appearance radically. Gone were standard oldie covers, replaced by furious, minimalist original material that anticipated the blunt, harsh commentary of the punk era. Their insistent rhythms recalled martial beats and polkas as much as garage rock, and the weirdness quotient was heightened by electric banjo, berserk organ runs, and occasional bursts of feedback guitar. quiting smoking for good was surprisingly easy for me i had tried quitting before, but would make it a couple days before i was lighting up again. the thing was, every time i tried to quit, i would be all dramatic and shit. take my pack, tell a friend, "you see these? never again!" and throw away the pack, but that wouldn't last. this time, i dunno, i just stopped. i don't even remember the last time i had a cigarette. and i smoked for about 2 1/2 years also, i read somewhere that most college students who say that they are going to quit smoking after they graduate, don't...and i've never been one who likes fitting into people's assumptions or predictions of who i am.

let's see...i just recently quit smoking...i don't drink...at all...i do enjoy coffee with too much sugar, but i don't consider that guilty... phil collins...his music is my guilty pleasure...you don't get guiltier than that.

damn...now i have to go to the t-shirt store and make one of those myself.

so a couple nights ago I was listening to Beautiful Midnight and I realized, that album means so much to me and it is just an incrdible peice of work by matt and is former bandmates, i don't just listen to that album. i realized that it had such a deeper meaning for me while it was playing. i don't simply physically listen to this album with my ears, it's more of an experience while it is playing. i take it all in at a deeper more inexplicably manner. i have progresssed past simply listening to the album, it is an experience while it spins in my stereo. i don't know, i just thought i would share this story on the bored and if you have had the same thing happen with you and an album, not just by Matt, but by any artist, post your stories.

stick with the College radio thing i have graduated...4/5 months ago, and that is the one thing from college i miss the most. right now i am waiting for a call from Target in Fargo, North Dakota about a job i applied for this past monday...they would have me working at the Starbucks...which would be quite alright.

Black Mask (Live) I saw them live this past summer. Their energy is for real. I got to be so close that the bass player sweat on me and Dennis (lead singer) kissed my hand. so my vote is for t(i)nc. and their coolness.

i used to dislike my name Christoffer but its really grown on me so unique, yet i never correct people when they (always) mis-pronounce it. "well, Christopher..." "no, actually, its ChrisTOFFer." that would be so conceited and awesome, i choose not to correct them.

Sam Roberts is an incredible rock artist. and i mean ROCK. he doesn't dabble in any sub-genres. rock alternative with jazz indie influences. no, straight rock.

*jealous* i have heard nothing but awesome things about Sam Roberts live show, and I probably won't have the opportunity to ever see him live *knock wood* of course he is playing a show in Minneapolis in october coming up...he's opening for Ben Kweller. Opening?! i'm such a major Sam Roberts fan, i will take nothing short of a Sammy show. and him releasing a live album would be the shit.
