  1. I found the Airdrie show when I was purchasing tickets for Fort Saskatchewan. I think it was sort of an error, because if you search the Ticketpro website for Matthew Good shows it only shows Fort Saskatchewan now, but the link I posted still works.
  2. I think the small town thing is kind of cool. And maybe there's some purpose in not announcing the whole tour in one shot. We'll see what Matt says when the tour is acknowledged by his team. I hope he plays in Banff or Jasper on this acoustic tour. I would love that. Everyone keep scouring the internet for shows. I feel lucky to have got good Camrose tickets considering that show was on sale for days before I knew about it. I also got tickets to Fort Saskatchewan and I'll do Airdrie is well, because I have friends all over the province.
  3. Another solo acoustic show. February 13, 2019 - Airdrie, AB Do we maybe want to split this thread up and start a separate 2019 solo acoustic thread?
  4. Seeing a few shows on the Tour Across Canada got me really excited for the prospect of a Something Like a Storm Fall Tour with Matthew Good as the sole headliner. I love looking back at the various setlists, since he changes them up every night. We’ve probably had threads like this before. Based on what we know about the setlists Matt has played on the previous couple of tours, Load Me Up, Apparitions, Weapon, and Born Losers are nightly staples. On the Tour Across Canada, he played Something Like a Storm and Strange Days at each show, so they could probably be considered safe bets. Additionally we know the band usually learns all of the new songs and maybe a deep cut or two. What would your ideal 16 song setlist be for the a fall tour? Mine would be something like this: The Rat Who Would Be King Something Like a Storm The Future is X-Rated Bad Guys Win Born Losers There The First Time Days Come Down Strange Days Advertising on Police Cars Failing the Rorschach Test Load Me Up / Carmelina This is Night Weapon ————— Men at the Door Apparitions Bullets in a Briefcase
  5. Hey, Sean. Thanks for recording the show. I found it tough to listen to having been in attendance and knowing what was about to come during Alert Status Red. I really love that version of Advertising on Police Cars. What a beautiful way to open a show. That was really special.
  6. Hey, everyone. Matt just collapsed in the middle of his set in Edmonton, out cold. He was playing the fourth song of the set, which happened to be Alert Status Red. He was carried off the stage by crew. It might be from overexertion, but let’s all send out our wishes for a speedy recovery from whatever is ailing him. Hopefully it’s not life-threatening. Edit: Raine Maida just came out and let the crowd know that Matt is on his way to the hospital. Luckily, we’re close to one at the Northern Jubilee Auditorium. He’s been suffering from pneumonia, but really wanted to do the show.
  7. I feel like Chaotic Neutral sounds like a random collection of songs. I guess that was one of the points, but I really liked the way Arrows of Desire flowed, so it didn’t necessarily click for me the same way when it was released. I think Matt had said he didn’t even worry about tracking Chaotic Neutral, because of the way music is consumed these days. Something Like a Storm feels like it was composed and recorded to be an album with a strong statement behind it. It sounds very rich, polished, and professional. I also think the latter has stronger songs, even though I love all of the songs from both records. I also think it sort of helps that I didn’t hear any demos this time around.
  8. I’m very impressed with how well the songs are constructed and how great the production is. There’s a lot of layering on many of these tracks that I don’t remember hearing in the previous couple albums. This is a great album in its totality and one that I already cherish owning. Just thinking about Bullets in a Briefcase while I was at work today made me choke up a little. There are many songs on this album that are emotionally evocative. Having Bullets in a Briefcase at the end is just about the best exclamation mark he could have put on the album when you listen to it as a statement. Job very well done. My favorites are There the First Time, This is Night, and Bullets in a Briefcase.
  9. This is Night appears to include the lead guitar from The Lone Gunman. Has anybody discussed this yet? I noticed Matt mentioned he had that riff floating around in his mind from around 2007 on the acoustic tour.
  10. I had to use the Ticketmaster app on my phone, but I purchased tickets. These shows give me something to look forward to. Seeing as that the show is in September, I can look into Midnight Oil a little bit more.
  11. So glad you got a stop in Saskatchewan! Awesome picture!
  12. Thank you! I'll keep that in mind. I hope you had a great time at the shows this time around.
  13. I accept the reasoning that the last thing we want is for Matt to get sick. I just loved the format from the CN tour. No direct or close-up contact, but the special acoustic performance of four songs not played in the main set. The inflation rate is over 2% right now, but I think more than that has been "cut" from the experience. I will just count myself lucky that I have the resources to go to any show in the first place, let alone three, and cherish the memories of past VIP experiences.
  14. Hey, girl, that's really sweet of you. I just woke up! Haha. Maybe it just wasn't meant to be this time, but thank you for the kind offer. I also bought the football jersey, a hoodie, two t-shirts, and the toque.
  15. I wouldn't advocate changing back to the format where a hundred people stand in line to exchange one line with him. I don't think the risk of Matt falling ill is worth it. However, I wonder why the VIP costs the same price as last time, but includes less elements.
  16. Does anyone recall how the VIP experiences have evolved over the last few tours? They've all come with lanyards, and the last two have been signed, I think? Arrows of Desire had the vinyl, the poster, and the brief meet and greet where you could have some items signed. That was pretty good, but we don't want anyone getting sick from close exposure to too many folks. Chaotic Neutral had a really cool VIP experience, and I think it was a good idea to host it before the show. The Q&A and acoustic performances were really valuable elements of the package. However, now it's sort of neutered, because you still get the soundcheck and a potential say in the songs played, but instead of more music and possible insight, you get a quick group photo. I know there must be some rationale behind this, and Matt's been really good at explaining the transactional and business side of touring, but does anyone here know why the change? There must be some relationship between price, attendance, time, etc.
  17. Thanks for keeping me company while our car was fixed. There's never really a dull moment. I appreciated your perspective on attending multiple shows and ensuring that they're preserved for posterity. I didn't quite connect the dots when I was trying to explain my outlook on those recordings by talking about the letter found in the Library and Archives of Canada. What I meant to explain is that it's nice to revisit certain moments in time, especially your own personal history. Since these shows are little highlights in a life well-lived, they form a part of that history. Even for shows that one doesn't personally witness, the alteration in setlists, how shows flow, and how songs come together live (performance, structure, etc.) make it a really commendable endeavour, like a documentarian or archivist. Comparing shows from different dates over the length of a tour shed light on the evolution of the performance in its entirety. Also, always great to meet other fans from the Bored. Thanks, gursky. On this tour, I had the opportunity to see the Red Deer, Calgary, and Edmonton Shows. I'm really glad I decided to go to Red Deer this time. That show was unique, because of the size of the venue, the crowd, and the band's, but especially Matt's, interaction with the crowd. As far as I could tell, the entire audience was standing for nearly the entire show after being encouraged to do so during Hello Time Bomb. Everyone stayed engaged. In Calgary, my seats were to the right of the stage. I think that this was the first time I've watched the band play from that angle. However, from where I was, the kick and the bass seemed overly present in the mix. It could be the acoustics of the casino event centre venues used in Calgary and Edmonton. Luckily, I think people on the Bored know these songs well enough to fill in the gap if the acoustics of the venue keep the mix from being pristine. The show had its many interesting live moments, such as Matt's mic failing during Let's Get It On, Stu's difficulty with the monitors, and the issue with the guitar during the intro of Weapon. I was pleased that a lot of the crowd was standing for the Calgary show as well. During the Chaotic Neutral tour, my friends and I got shouted down for standing. As mentioned above, some of the people that the bigger city shows draw don't always seem to be the most dedicated to enjoying the rock performance occurring right in front of them. Edmonton was pretty good as well. Nearly as straightforward as Calgary, without much of the technical troubles. A little more banter. I went to the show with my fiancee and one of her friends who is another dedicated fan of Matt's music, and this time our seats were near the front right in the center, I enjoyed Failing the Rorschach test more and more each time I saw it live. I was lucky, because I managed to catch the performance during soundcheck. Matt is nailing those high notes during the bridge into the outro. Honestly, I have to say that I found the e-mail mix-up with the VIP experience start time frustrating. Sometimes, the merch table will be selling unique items that get bought up before the doors open to the general public. I had intended to pick something up like that (a drumhead, etc.) if possible to commemorate this special tour, but I couldn't, because I was an hour late due to the misdirection in the e-mail. I didn't do it in Calgary, because I live in Edmonton, so there would have been less of a chance that it would have been roughed up on the way back home. Lo and behold, I'm pretty sure I saw at least one in someone else's hands. I know that it isn't Matt's fault, and it wasn't the tour staff either. They were all really awesome, and good on the band for adding another song to the soundcheck for those who arrived late. I quickly got over myself and realized that life is still as good as it ever has been. I bought lots of other stuff along the way, and I'm glad to do so if it contributes to the continuation of a musician's career. I hope that some of these Beautiful Midnight songs can be used in future album tour setlists. How about subbing Strange Days for Apparitions every now and then? Failing the Rorschach Test might be nice in that encore opener position in the future. All in all, I'm glad Matt decided to pursue the idea of performing an album in its entirety and I'm doubly glad it was this one.
  18. Encore tonight was: A Single Explosion Born Losers Apparitions Weapon More to come later.
  19. It's kind of cool how that soundcheck doesn't give away the encore for tonight per se. My VIP instructions stated that the meeting time was 4 pm, and I didn't get any e-mail regarding time changes like the one in Calgary. So, I went an hour late. I still saw part of the soundcheck and got a group photo though. They played Failing the Rorschach Test "for the latecomers."
  20. How was the show otherwise? They've had a pretty tough schedule lately. They had four shows in a row, one day off and then Red Deer and Grande Prairie back to back, which is between a five and six hour drive isn't it? Now back down to Calgary. A well-deserved day off.
  21. It sounds like the consensus is that last night was fantastic. I usually go to the west coast for a show, but this time given the circumstances, I decided to go to three Alberta shows. Looking at the sets from the past Red Deer shows, it seems like special things always happen there. I'm glad I went this time. It truly was great. By the way, I really like the effect Stu is using for the chorus of Let's Get It On.
  22. So. I just got back home from the show in Red Deer. The show took place in a theatre built in 1951. Maybe it was its age that gave it a "small town" vibe. It felt good. I really enjoyed Craig Stickland and so did the rest of the audience, as evidenced by the standing ovation he received at the end of his set. Prior to playing one of his songs, he told a story about working minimal hours as a bartender and sleeping on a couch in a recording studio to pursue his dream of becoming a career musician. Being the humble guy he must be, he didn't revel in the standing ovation for too long before he thanked the crowd and had them sit back down for the set change. Great choice as an opener. From Hello Time Bomb onwards, most of the crowd stood for the majority of Beautiful Midnight as best as I could tell. There was a lot of banter from Matt tonight. I see he tweeted about bourbon bringing the storyteller out in him. There were also some amusing exchanges between him and the audience. For example, during the inevitable calls for Rico, he discussed Underdogs and Last of the Ghetto Astronauts with fans up front. About the latter, he said something along the lines of that album being used by the CIA as torture at Gitmo. He also referred to himself and the current lineup as a band of geriatrics. I thought that the new version of Let's Get it On was particularly powerful live. He wasn't able to sing the song from the audience tonight, because of issues with feedback. There was one of those special "live moments" when the band came out of the second verse totally out of sync with one another, and Matt stopped and restarted the song from the second chorus on. One of my favourite MGB songs has always been Failing the Rorschach Test, so to see that song come alive after what seems like thousands of repeated listens felt really special for me. The same goes for Running for Home. I hope some of the Beautiful Midnight songs other than Giant, Hello Time Bomb, Load Me Up, and the Future is X-Rated remain in rotation for future tours. Decades reveals the promise of the upcoming album. Matt discussed the possibility of producing a short film for Bad Guys Win given "everything going on at the moment." According to him, this was discussed with a record company representative from Toronto who met up with him in Vancouver. Furthermore, the encore he chose tonight, given that there's only two rotating spots, was perfect in my opinion. This was the only show I've seen since 2011 that did not include Born Losers or Alert Status Red, including acoustic performances, so as privileged as I've been to see numerous shows since then, I'm happy to give them a rest. Setlist: Giant Hello Time Bomb Strange Days I Miss New Wave Load Me Up Failing the Rorschach Test Suburbia Let's Get It On Jenni's Song Going All The Way A Boy and His Machine Gun The Future is X-Rated Born to Kill Running for Home Advertising On Police Cars Decades Apparitions Weapon
  23. My first show on this tour is tomorrow in Red Deer. I'm lucky enough to work for a company that is generous with vacation for long-term employees, so I took the whole week off for Red Deer, Calgary, and Edmonton. I'm looking forward to hearing many of these songs live for the first time. I love live variants of songs. When I was in high school, I used to spend my nights collecting bootlegs (mostly Pearl Jam and Metallica) listening through full shows to discover improvs, miscues, and changes. Needless to say, I'm very excited for hearing the way Matt and his current band interpret the songs in 2017.
  24. I wonder if this little EP gives us any insight into how the new LP will sound.
  25. I was just in Ottawa in May. Keep that Kayak or Hopper app going, and maybe you'll find a great deal!
