Matthew Good To Receive The Bob Edwards Award In Calgary
NonPopulus replied to a topic in Matthew Good
Seems like an award tailored to Matt. Congratulations to him! -
I wondered why the tickets were being sold in US funds. I thought that was odd.
-
I'm taking a group of friends to Calgary. It's nice to have something to look forward to.
-
Referring to the latest demo or the whole set?
-
Nice find! Thank you!
-
How do you think he followed up at the noon Mattawa festival show? Haha.
-
He's been playing those songs back-to-back since at least the beginning of the Arrows of Desire tour.
-
Something else I find pretty interesting is how Born Losers and Non Populus are broken up. Also, Had it Coming and We're Long Gone were played in reverse order.
-
That was how he did Strange Days in Edmonton as well. I like it when he opens the show like that. It's kind of like 2005, when he'd open with an acoustic version of an older song.
-
THAT is pretty damn awesome.
-
On Twitter, Matt posted he wrote an eclectic setlist for tonight. We'll have to see what that's all about.
-
Matt posted a reply to one of the threads here about Born to Kill. He told someone who met him on the tour that they were getting tired, hence no new songs in soundcheck near the end.
-
They were actually attempting to play it during the Arrows of Desire tour, but they ran out of steam near the end and never got around to it.
-
Did anyone ever help you out?
-
When I have enough posts to get in there, I'll have to check it out. Haha.
-
For fun, I'm reviving this old thread to ask if anyone is aware of recordings from the 2011 tour other than Edmonton and one of the Toronto shows. I listen to both shows on a semi-frequent basis. It was my favorite tour so far and I'd like to have a few shows to listen to if anyone is willing to share or point me in the right direction!
-
Yeah, the full original version was scrapped. Maybe we'll hear that if Matt ever decides to do an outtake retrospective. Even an online release would be great.
-
From what I understand, this song had its origins in the Avalanche sessions, but it was stripped down and released during the White Light era for that organization. Originally, there was more to it than the minimalistic "Single Version."
-
Oh, well, that's too bad! I felt like the 2011 tour was epic, or at least had the potential to be so every night. I especially enjoyed the shows that opened with the While We Were Hunting Rabbits/Lights of Endangered Species/The Boy Who Could Explode combination. It just seemed like a great way to build into the show. Actually, the shows that opened with any of the slower songs from Lights were kind of neat. I like the slow builders. I'd be interested in hearing that show you taped! 2008 was an interesting year for shows. Very intense!
-
Out of curiosity, Adrian, what was it that so disappointed you in 2011? I honestly loved that tour!
-
So no Arrows of Desire then?

Last night's show at the Ranch was amazing. Lots of energy on the floor! I haven't been to a GA show since he played at Capital Ex a couple years ago. I thought the crowd was great and I especially appreciated the singalongs during Strange Days, Load Me Up, and Apparitions. I didn't hear anyone hurl offensive comments toward the stage either. The only thing I didn't love about the Ranch as a concert venue was the height of the stage. It's a little high for those at the front. Otherwise, it was pretty good for a rather intimate performance.

Does anyone know when the show in Edmonton starts tomorrow? Tickets say 8 pm, but I don't know if that's the time for the doors or for the opener.
-
Last night's show: Last Parade Had It Coming We're Long Gone Born Losers Non Populus Load Me Up Alert Status Red So Close Everything is Automatic Apparitions Weapon ---------- Giant Was anyone there?

Looking forward to seeing what happens at the show tonight! I'm glad the summer shows are beginning.
