    New Album 2017

MG's Twitter graphic has been updated, we have confirmation of Something Like a Storm releasing on October 20! And a post on the official MG website too!
  2. You're right on all accounts. I recorded audio and I had a friend do video (plus samples from others that were near the front when there was a tape change). MG has only played that venue a few times and that 2006 show was perfect for crowd, setlist and audio. The video is currently available on YouTube and Dimeadozen. Of the video concerts posted last year I'm surprised that the 2006 acoustic show doesn't have more hits, but here are the respective links. YouTube: Dimeadozen: http://www.dimeadozen.org/torrents-details.php?id=578065
  3. This is it folks, this is the pinnacle of my wishlist right here. This song remains near the top of my favorite songs over MG's career. I heard the song live once at Edgefest '98 and I thought it was lost to the ages. I'm super jealous for those that will be in Kelowna (girl!) but also excited to know that this can be played again.
  4. This trip is just a simple few day getaway at a fancy hotel (Sparkling Hills). We spent a few weeks in the Okanagan area back in 2013 and kept busy with wineries then and we will definitely visit some new ones this time around. Our favorites continue to be a little further south in the Black Sage area but we'll challenge ourselves to discover new favorites around Kelowna :). Relaxing, enjoying the sights and spending an afternoon biking on the Myra trestles will probably take up the rest of our short time there.
  5. YEESSSS! Get in there and record those acoustic gems! These acoustic winery shows are almost as exclusive as that one time people were invited over to a living room in Vegas (I think) to hear MG strum the guitar. That may have been related to something with Earnhardt Jr. but get to that winery and report back. I planned a trip to Kelowna next month but will be showing up a few days after the concert. Not that I could have gone to the show anyway with tickets being sold out so good on you for being able to get in there.
  6. I attended Calgary last night and had a chance to talk with NonPopulus at the VIP Experience and spoke to adam_777 before the start of the main show. Thanks for being social and keeping me company at the show. I went to the shows alone and it's nicer to talk to fellow Bored members than hunkering down in my seat using my phone. Hope all who have gone to a few Alberta shows enjoy themselves in Edmonton, I'm bummed to miss a home town show but really appreciate being able to see a few during this week. The setlist was identical to Red Deer and the band was in tighter form. There were fewer breaks between songs, which made the show nearly 10 minutes shorter because of that. I'm really glad I went to Red Deer on this tour, I may consider adding it to my itinerary on future tours so I can get a feel for how a smaller venue is compared to Edmonton/Calgary...plus more MG on a tour isn't a bad thing. Red Deer was really relaxed compared to Calgary, and the audience was different too. Like others have said, I had some people in my area who just came to socialize. One group of guys talked through the whole show and during Running for Home someone told them to shut up. All that chatter is barely noticeable on my recording but while listening live I felt like I had one or two conversations going on around me the whole time. Seeing the show for a second time gave me a chance to look at the rest of the band during the songs and the guitar transition during Born to Kill is so rad. Stu switching out the slide guitar and then that leads to the climax of the song, is so awesome. When the opening chords on Running for Home start I still get goosebumps, so it's safe to say that this song transitioned well from studio to live. I can't believe that I got to hear such rarities played this week. The band commented that the streak for someone requesting Avalanche continued in Calgary. Since they were experimenting with it during soundcheck it's possible that someone may get their wish at a future show. As for Albertan's shouting for Rico...it was definitely a hit here in the 90's, but I don't think it was the biggest one from Underdogs. I thought all fans did that, so not only do I need to continue going to Red Deer on future tours I should consider a different province to hear what they request. And finally, you want to hear a song sample from Calgary? Here you go, I Miss New Wave: https://soundcloud.com/sean-gursky/matthew-good-i-miss-new-wave-february-24-2017.
  7. Calgary VIP was pretty rad. I'm always in the back of the venue (for recording reasons) and haven't been close to the stage in over a decade. I forgot how awesome it is up there and you can really appreciate the work the band is doing. They played Decades, Advertising on Police Cars and Running for Home. MG mentioned that the audience voted for two songs in tonight's encore, so tonight could be similar to Red Deer and that's not a bad thing. The band was also experimenting with Avalanche and while buying merchandise I heard samples of Alert Status Red. Looks like the shows further east may get some surprises!
  8. I never thought of it this way but I completely agree. I still remember the day Beautiful Midnight was released and listening to the album on the way back from the store (friend and I drove over an hour to buy it), but hearing the entire album live for the first time is going to be another great memory for years to come. My excitement level for the Calgary show tonight is even higher than it was for the Red Deer show.
  9. Attended Red Deer last night and was thoroughly impressed. I was worried that because the small venue hadn't sold out that the fans wouldn't be in to it, but as others have said, that wasn't the case. The crowd was respectful and stayed standing for most of the night. I've been seeing MG/B play for two decades now (Edgefest '97) and Red Deer marked my 30th show. Each tour is unique and that's why we all keep coming back. Last night was no different as I was treated to an album I love be played with such enthusiasm and creativity. I avoided listening to song samples before last night so when songs like Failing The Rorschach Test or Going All The Way were played I felt like I was hearing the songs fresh for the first time. The band was very loose and relaxed which led to a few in between song banter. 18 songs were played but it was almost two hours long with the multiple breaks between songs. adam_777 saw the setlist and told me what the encore was and as the show was running long I was worried that a song would be dropped, and I'm thrilled it wasn't because it was an excellent mix of songs. I'm really glad to be seeing another show on this tour because what the guys are doing on stage is worth it. If you want to hear how Failing The Rorschach Test sounded then take a listen here: https://soundcloud.com/sean-gursky/matthew-good-live-failing-the-rorschach-test.
  10. Well written Adam and I agree with everything you've said. It's a shame that you got targeted at the show, especially when others around you on cellphones are more disruptive and obvious in what they are doing than you are. Unfortunately when tapers go to a show they know they are in a possible gray area and don't have much grounds for an argument. I believe foats is on to something, the way Tony and his girlfriend were treated and how you were singled out are probably more to do with the venue staff than anything. The comment Tips found from 2003 about MG's thought on taping is useful but unless the venue is told about those wishes each time an artist comes through the staff will enforce their own policies. The music industry has adapted to constant changes, but taping/bootlegging seems to be an area that has remained in the past and continues to have negative connotations associated with it. It's not fair that someone on their cellphone or "prosumer" digital camera can capture visuals and possibly decent audio, but the fan with concealed microphones is the enemy.
  11. Go nearly two decades without hearing a song (or closer to rarely as possible) and when you finally do get a chance you may as well swing for the fences and hear it as many times as possible. If NF Bored members aren't in a position to sway the vote either way then I'll probably vote for Police Cars or Decades. I didn't know that recordings would be allowed as part of the VIP experience - did that information come with the email telling you the details for the Vancouver one? It's a nice tough, unfortunately it won't change my setup. I have everything arranged for stealth and will leave it as is, at least I won't feel as obvious with the house lights on.
  12. What to do, what to do? Hear Born to Kill twice in a night or try and guarantee a chance to hear the new song Decades? Or do I give in to my Audio of Being love and vote for Advertising on Police Cars? I don't imagine everyone in the VIP soundcheck will be members of NF but if we could use our numbers to back one song over the other then maybe we can make a difference
  13. Loser Anthems hasn't seen airtime in a while, that would a pretty fitting match to the Beautiful Midnight set. I don't want to get too greedy if I'm already hearing Born to Kill and Running for Home but Flashdance II as an encore opener would be pretty rad. I'm excited to get this tour started but I don't know if I can avoid setlist spoilers until the Alberta shows as I'm really curious what could happen for an encore. I check on Twitter, occasionally Instagram and here for news but I skip the Facebook page. I need to broaden my social game. Good to know that wheels are in motion.
  14. For those that did the VIP upgrade, it is now "early February 2017" so we should expect to see an email about voting on one of the songs to be performed in soundcheck arriving soon. Even though the tour starts this weekend in Victoria, the first VIP experience isn't until Vancouver on the 16th. Rehearsals wrapped on the 31st but I wonder if the songs available for voting get worked through by the band during the first few non-VIP experience soundchecks and then an email goes out with potential songs early next week? This is all speculation, I imagine I'm not the only one curious to know what the song options are, hopefully the email hasn't already gone out and I missed it.
  15. Yes, that was my doing. I posted about the videos in The Lounge but it didn't make their way to this side. These are meant to be shared so thanks for linking them here. Here was the preamble I gave about the videos: The concerts are also uploaded to Dimeadozen as well and still being seeded.
  16. Not sure about how the other 4,999 but I know how one was distributed. At Edgefest 1998 MGB was playing on the small stage and the HMV tent had CD's for all artists in attendance. They were selling Underdogs with Lo-Fi B-Sides sealed in the same plastic wrap. My friend didn't own Underdogs at the time so he bought the CD at the concert and ended up with a surprise collector's item. Edgefest was national that year so maybe a portion were sold at the festival and the remainder were in store?
  17. I have never been to the River Cree so I can't speak for sight lines or overall enjoyment at the venue. I am not attending the Edmonton show so didn't look in to the presale, but Ticketmaster and the MG website confirm that it doesn't start until Thursday so you have time to look at a seating chart and pick your approach. As for myself, I bought an upper level ticket for Red Deer (February 21) and will wait on the Calgary (February 24) purchase as I'm looking for a single ticket by the mixing station or front row on the raised platform.

  19. Shows are appearing on http://www.matthewgood.org/shows/. I checked a few minutes ago and there were on a few in BC, and now the rest of the tour is populated.
  20. Technical issues for the November 20 show have been sorted out but I think my recording device has done it's last show. The device is nearly a decade old, and it's probably time to upgrade as it's getting harder to pass as a guy carrying something the size of a CD player when I have a smartphone in my pocket. The concert will be posted in the Lounge but you can listen to an Army of Lions sample here (on SoundCloud).
  21. I recorded the Edmonton show last night but am having some pretty odd issues with my device. I have been unable to get the device recognized either with FireWire or USB connections, my Mac's (different OS X versions) and PC don't see the device either. I'll try and do a Line In recording to a computer next, failing that I will take the hard drive out of the recorder and hope that works. Long story short, it may take me a bit longer to transfer the audio and get a recording out to everyone.
  22. I'm in the same boat so I'll follow your lead when you get a response back. This is a different kind of stress compared to the days of waiting for A&B Sound or HMV to open, searching the aisles for the box containing the CD and getting out as quick as possible.
  23. Edmonton (November 20) tickets purchased in the presale. I got upper balcony, front row, from an area I've seen MG perform several times. This will be my 29th time seeing him and his band perform around the Edmonton area, pretty grateful that he continues to come back after all these years.
  24. Attended the Edmonton (July 3) at The Ranch and it was a really solid performance. This was my 28th show so I think I have seen all Edmonton crowds have to offer and for being at a bar the crowd was well behaved, with no heckling or annoying yelling. There was some in between song banter, about usual for a full band performance (Matt was really hung up on the lack of cock in the Game of Thrones adaptation from what is in the ASOIAF series), and the band seemed to be in good spirits. For having just started this tour the band seemed really tight, and Matt mentioned that they performed Champions of Nothing without having run through in soundcheck and even though they last played in November, but you couldn't tell; it was solid. There was a lot of long rockers added in, some material from Arrows of Desire, so it had a lot of what I like in a show. After seeing the band in a sit down venue the last few years it was good to see the feedback from the crowd and see them get in to it, so maybe that helped the feel of the overall show. I recorded the show and doing a quick flip through the file and here is the setlist: Strange Days Champions of Nothing Last Parade Born Losers Non Populus Guns of Carolina Load Me Up Had it Coming So Close Weapon Apparitions Letters in Wartime ---------- Garden of Knives Alert Status Red Shallow's Low I won't be able to track out the entire recording for about a week, so in the meantime here is a sample of Born Losers: https://www.dropbox....born.losers.mp3
  25. The set list posted for November 14 is slightly incorrect, it goes: Mutineering > So Close > While We Were Hunting Rabbits instead of While We Were Hunting Rabbits > Mutineering > So Close. Anyway, here is Via Dolorosa from the Edmonton show put on a Dropbox link, hopefully everyone can access it...enjoy! https://www.dropbox....%20Dolorosa.mp3
