I'm exploding on the inside, but it's not coming across in my writing....lol

Great, great news. Now, if we can only get a concert DVD...

Who's the best live band?
montrealmike replied to Kumquat's topic in Music In General: David Bowie Appreciation Station
I've never even come close to experiencing what I did when I saw U2 in the post 9/11 October Montreal show. Wow, what an amazing show and I doubt I'll ever see a better show than that. Any AC/DC show is a must as well... -
Sum 41's "Chuck" was named after a U.N. worker who helped the band out of the Congo when a war or a battle broke out there. They were there filming something for "War Child" when the war or a battle broke out getting the band caught in the crossfire. I wouldn't be surprised if they used that for inspiration somewhat instead... You're right: the album was named after Chuck, the UN worker, but the album is partially influenced by the War in Iraq as well: Chuck

What's wrong with inspiration? As much as I disagree with the US invading Iraq, you have to admit that even the war has 'influenced' a lot of artists right now (Matt, U2, Green Day, Sum 41, Eminem, etc...).

It's like the original Beatles getting back together: ain't gonna happen...

lol, i like it too man, i was just saying tht most people ive talked to don't like it and i can't believe that they would say Heaten Chemistry was a disappointment!! It's a great album! Because people compare their albums to their first two, not realizing those were some of the best selling UK albums of all time.

Matt's website has vital signs...

I'm one to avoid discussing the meaning of songs because I think that they mean something different to everyone, so I won't participate in this thread. Whoops...
-
That's cool. Well, if you love the first two albums, I think you'd like Heathen Chemistry (except for tracks 7-9, which aren't great).
-
They probably don't like it because it's one of the most poorly produced albums I've ever heard (but the songs are great). And, they were on bags of coke while doing the album as well...
-
With all due respect, 2 things: you're obviously not a fan of 'Ghetto' (which is okay); and, with all those songs, aren't you better off buying the actual albums instead??
-
Have some class, dude. I would simply push mine out of the way........lol

How shameful...kidding. Yeah, it gave me goosebumps...

I'm the kind of person that loves any song stripped down to just an acoustic and/or with a harmonica. As I've said many times (like many other people), an acoustic tour would be a wonderful idea. I've seen the Neil Young acoustic tour and it was great. Also, my favorite song from the Montreal show was easily 'Can't get shot...', like many other people as well. Stripping songs to acoustic make them sound more real. More haunting...simpler....no necessary Slash guitar solo either...

That's why I started the thread! Myself, I've always thought that in the past, 'selling out' comes from the hippie 60's where if you joined or aligned yourself with any corporation, then that was selling out. Today, however, I believe that 'American Idol' is the perfect definition of selling out: creating artificial stardom quickly without paying your dues and creating disposable music.

iam madferit is oasis slang, if you didn't know...

Sure, that would be cool. Anyways, I've always wondered what the difference is between putting your song over a commercial in opposed to putting your song in a movie or something? Does that mean that if your song appears on a soundtrack, that's selling out? Cause it's the same thing as putting your song in a tv ad, no?
-
I'm curious because there are so many different meanings to selling out. I ask this because Crusader mentioned how Jet sold out AND I was watching a new U2 interview and they were confronting the issue of whether or not they 'sold out' by letting their first release be commercialized on tv to promote the ipod. Bono basically said that selling out is a term that refers back to the 60's and selling out to corporations. However, U2 is a corporation in his opinion, so where's the logic there? Anyways, discuss...

Wow, you don't like their first album? That is a complete shock to hear as I've never heard that (even from people who hate Oasis). Besides the fact that it is rated one of the best debut albums of all time, classic songs like Live Forever, Supersonic and Cigarettes & Alcohol are awesome...

No, I mean relatively speaking. For example: compare him to the Apparitions video with the long hair. He just looks much younger with the short hair..

Matt looks really young with his hair cut short in the vid...
