  1. Casimir Pulaski Day, Chicago and The Predatory Wasp... all get nods from me. I love the old stuff, but I need to listen to his new album, complete departure except for the first track.
  2. The sign appears in the background through a window when Scott and (Ramona?) are eating in a restaurant. For the life of me I can't recall the scene but I remember the screenshot someone posted of it. Somewhere. I swear I'm sane. Ditto on the complexity argument. I'm kinda glad they didn't try to half ass any of the Joseph-Stills or Kim-Scott stuff, probably better off just leaving it all out. I'd readily welcome an alternate interpretation of the movie from someone else's point of view though.
  3. Anyone have the Scott Pilgrim OST? I'm placing my bets on Tracy...
  4. Positive Tension - Bloc Party
  5. Exactly what I did two weeks ago. I already owned vol. 6 on release day but 1-4 came on the 13th and 5 came on Monday. I'm trying to get in another showing so I can absorb more of what happened and look for the O'Malley & wife cameo among others, but I don't think I'll get to see it until next week.
  6. Glad to hear someone who didn't read the series liked it. I was starting to worry... I'm not going to lie, I can't really picture anyone else other the Cera playing Pilgrim. Samberg? Ehh, that just doesn't jive with me, but I'd imagine that everyone has their own depiction of Scott's persona in their mind. Cera wan't asshole-ish enough if you're comparing him to being the true Scott, but Edgar Wright mentioned that this is the story told through Scott's eyes, so he has a minor cop-out for the lack of asshole-ness and faults on Scott's side.
  7. Most of the ladies in the movie got shafted in terms of story development. Nadda for Lisa, not even close for Kim or Envy, and Ramona was better but still not quite enough for my tastes. But it all came together rather well considering it was 6 books crammed into 2 hours. It should also be taken into account that this is all from Scott's point of view, so he already knows about the past with most of the characters, hence the relatively heavy development of Knives and Ramona. Ramona came across as more of a bitch in the movie than in the books, but still likable. I would love to see the extra 14 mins they cut from it. The music kicked ass too, I've been listening to the soundtrack a few times a day.
  8. Hells yes! I haven't seen a Cera movie since Superbad so I found he's moved away some from his straight and narrow typecast, and he came close to being what I though Scott would be, just not as hyperactive as I had hoped. I'm mad at myself for going to the earlier screening since when I walked out there was a small line of people who were clearly fans of the film, and I saw a few SP-inspired shirts in the lobby. I think I would have enjoyed it more with fewer kids in the theater. Todd Ingram, Stephen Stills, Young Neil, Julie - all were so much more than I had anticipated. Even Knives was better than I had hoped for. But the lack of development on the side of Ramona (or so I felt) and Envy (!!!) were sticking points. Jason Schwartzman was excellent too. ;)
  9. Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World - insanely paced, very well-cast homage to the books. Not a true send up, but I left the theater smiling. The music was also really well done, great soundtrack.
  10. Watched American Splendor and Blade Runner this weekend. Splendor was good but I found I could be easily distracted by it, though I do like Paul Giamatti. Blade Runner was great, but I'd like to find a version with the voiceover narration to see the difference (watched the '07 final/directors cut). Amazing visuals to boot too.
  11. A Song for the Dead - Queens of the Stone Age
  12. I kinda went on a hiatus for a while after Vancouver came out, but his stuff usually makes its way into my rotation every now and again. I haven't even really listened to the demos that much even though I have most of them. I've listened to everything post-Underdogs at least once over the last 2-3 months though, although I almost never listen to Vancouver anymore. Killed that album with the live stream at work since I had little else to do at the time. I think my listening is on the decline overall though.
  13. He's currently quitting smoking and said he'd be reducing the posting for a while, so the frequency has been about the same for both the regular and M+ blogs - slow.
  14. Ah right. I'll just pretend I didn't hear that and maybe I'll forget to look the next time I'm in... coincidentally about 3-4 times a year as well.
  15. Bulk Barn has them? Oh shit, that is not a good thing.
  16. Oh elementary school, how I miss thee. Those things were a-mazing, anyone know if they still sell/make them?
  17. Root beer owns, but I'll settle for orange here.
  18. You're going to grow old, you're going to grow cold Bearing signs on the avenues, for your own personal Waterloo You're bearing signs on the avenue, for your own personal Waterloo Now we'll fight, we'll fight, we'll fight for your music halls and dying cities They'll fight, they'll fight, they'll fight, for your neural walls and plasticities And precious territory, and precious territory, and precious territory Gonna grow old, you're gonna grow so cold Before the sun can deliver you, you're bearing signs on the avenue You're bearing signs on the avenue, for your own personal Waterloo We'll fight, we'll fight, we'll fight for your music halls and dying cities They'll fight, they'll fight, they'll fight, for your neural walls and plasticities And precious territory, and precious territory, and precious territory
  19. Had The Beatles playing but not really listening until Yellow Submarine came on... why was this allowed on the album? Yeesh...
  20. Personally, I find less spam ends up in my inbox and I love it. I'm deleting an average of 5-10 spams in my Hotmail inbox every day, which is a lot better than it used to be, but is still annoying. With Gmail I might get one spam message a week, if that. Integration with GChat (?) is a nice touch, as anyone in your address book is automatically added. It's a nice bare-bones fix if I happen to catch someone online and I can chat with them instead of emailing back and forth. I haven't bothered with Google Wave or Buzz, both are practically useless to be since I don't know enough people using Gmail to be bothered using it. Aesthetically I also find it much more agreeable than the Hotmail layout that has barely changed since I first registered in grade 6. And yes, the attachment limit is 25 MB. Joined yet? ;)
  21. It's actually the first graphic novel/comic I've purchased, and I was a little disappointed at first, but I thought about it for a bit, re-read the book and I'm satisfied with it. Gideon really is a dick. I'd like to say more, but I'm too lazy right now for spoiler tags, need food...
  22. Hahaha, you would. ;) I think I've subconsciously avoided Cera movies, last one I saw was Superbad and I don't really recall anything else aside from Arrested Development and the drunk history thing he was in, so I'm pretty open to this one. But from what I've seen in the trailers I see this going either A) he moves a little bit out of his comfort zone and nails it, or B) he plays the same character he always has but the supporting cast picks up the slack. Regardless, I have high hopes and will be finished the books tonight. Hot damn!
  23. Damn you Scott Pilgrim. Damn you. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gTw2YvutJRA...h?v=gTw2YvutJRA[/url] Also, The Watchmen and Explosions in the Sky. I don't listen to either that much lately, I think it should change.
  24. Born-and-bred Catholic, but I only attend mass at home and/or with the family. It's been a major part of my life and I'm not about to completely discount it since it's made me who I am today, but every other church I've been to aside from home feels a bit odd. Many of the ideals are nice, and I still (think I) believe in God, Jesus etc. but not necessarily in the traditional form. I tend to just ignore a lot of the thought processes behind all that stuff and just live life as I feel, but I still have a fairly strong moral background to keep me grounded.
  25. I've had that sitting in my computer for nearly a year and I keep forgetting about it. Friend of mine says it's one of his favourites but has always clammed up about the subject matter, said he wants us to find out ourselves. I think it's a must watch at some point soon. Watched Snatch a few nights back. Good, but nothing I haven't seen before with Lock, Stock... and such. I need to say it - I was mildly obsessed with Inception for the last two weeks or so and I will still be going to see it within a weeks time, but godammit I cannot wait for Scott Pilgrim vs. The World to come out. I found the books and am enjoying the whole universe immensely. Anybody else on the Pilgrim bandwagon yet?
