i agree, they are the best band.. bar none. oneeighty, you might be relieved to hear that their next album is supposedly some kind of 'progressive piano rock epic' with a lot more of their classical roots in tact. Matt says there's gonna be a couple 10-minute plus songs on the album to look forward to. It sounds as if it will be completlely different then anything they've ever tried. I'm already excited, granted these are just the early ideas.

Agree with Chris. Radiohead is horribly over-rated imo. I would rather listen to Thom Yorke's solo cd then anything they've ever put out as a band Also, Knights of Cydonia is amazing, it just takes a few listens to really get into it. Not their best song by any means, since that of course could only be Citizen Erased. And to the OP, you should check out Origin of Symmetry.. its probably their best album.

They're not like radiohead at all. That reference is only made by people who haven't listened to the band enough. But then, I'm biased since its my favourite band by miles. Best live show I've ever seen (well, tied with Pearl Jam).

They're pretty good. I wouldn't really go out of my way to listen to their music, but i respect it. I love the epic song The Island though. wow, if the rest of the new album was up to that standard, it would be album of the millenium.. or something close to that.

Yeah Mars Volta suck live. Worst performance I've ever seen of a "big name" band, a shame since their studio albums are pretty awesome. It's like a wall of sound, with 9 musicians trying to outperform each other. Their sound crew needs to get their shit together, the bass in some songs like Viscera Eyes is unbearable. They used to be so much better. But yeah that's off topic, the new MCR cd was ok till it got to the line "i'm still soggy from the chemo" or whatever. i thought that was pretty terribly worded and haven't listened since.
