yeah its like a big wall of sound. although the percussionist (Marcel Rodriguez) deserves huge props for being amazing. He came out in the Chili's set and completely stole the show.

Don't get me wrong, I love the album too, but it didn't seem to translate well into a live arena show at all.

So I saw the mars volta last night at the ACC, and they were not all that good. For one thing, Cedric was sick. Day of the baphomets sounded like it was played underwater , there were also some serious sound issues (massive high pitched piercing from the flute = death to ears) and viscera eyes was pretty botched. the Red Hot Chili Peppers on the other hand were friggin amazing. Their 15 minute jam to close the encore was the closest to perfect musical bliss I've ever seen.

Sometimes I give up on things too fast if they aren't going my way or I make pretty unimportant things into a big deal.
