As for why he should be in the top ten? Love him or hate him, he's a Canadian icon. I'm not totally familiar with the criteria they base this on, but when you specify greatest CANADIAN you can't really just take some anonymous but helpful guy off the street...if nobody knows him, he could just as easily be from Belgium or South Africa or something.

MPs Should Pledge Allegiance Seems like a good idea to me.... The simple fact that this party has any power on the Hill is testament to how screwed up our system of government really is. Technicalities or no, common sense dictates that you do not allow openly traiterous organisations to have political power, especially when they intentionally disrupt the day to day workings of the nation as a way of driving home thier own unpopular agenda. They want to separate, fine. We don't need a whole political party based on the division of the country they're paid to serve. I'd planned to rant some about this country's general attitute toward the Canadian Forces, but that'd probably take me an hour to write...so I'll leave it for another time.

Maybe it's true that the ends a soldier fights for aren't always in his or her best interests...but you cannot ignore the fact that sometimes, they are. Perhaps some day, it will be true that war is never neccessary. Extremely unlikely in my opinion, but I don't pretend to be able to see the future.
