I dunno, I think a basic home or office GUI distro of Linux would be almost as easy as Windows as far as basic stuff goes. You've got your word processor, internet browser, a music player, e-mail...If you're starting with zero knowledge of either OS, I doubt it'd be alot harder. It's when you get to hardware installations and even vaguely uncommon software that windows pulls ahead in the ease-of-use department.

Yeah, that's what I mean - the setup is at least as easy, it's the adaptation of windows-based software that is (or can be) difficult. I can't just play Tux Racer all day, I need real games, when they're released, without waiting for instructions and fighting to make them work. Though come to think of it, I had to do that for HL2 anyway.

As it stands now, phone support of Windows is bad enough. Phone support of Linux, I suspect, would be akin to ritual suicide.

It's not like they have a strong foothold anyway. They wouldn't risk pushing against popular opinion on anything important. as someone else suggested today, it'll also cast some light on the agendas of his socially 'intolerant' right wing cronies. We'll see.

I won't argue that Windows sucks. Clearly it does. But due to compatibility and laziness issues, it's still the best out there for my purposes.

IT'S COMIN' RIGHT FOR US!!

I have used Linux (Red Hat 3.something, Fedora Core 2 and 3 as well as some distro of SUSE during the course of my studies and co-op work term. They have some features I enjoy, but overall I remain a Windows user. The time and effort involved in some installations turn me off of Linux as I am an impatient gamer. I have an Ubuntu distro on the desk behind me, I just haven't tried it yet.

Much of what I listen to is not conducive to sleep anyway. I tried that once, and it inspired some weird, weird half-waking dreams. Some of the newer stuff I've picked up might push that into the realm of nightmares.

Did that the firt stime, it sucked. too hard to get all the insulation of the original wires into the body, and it's usually even bulkier, if not quite so long. That's if the damn casing doesn't melt off while you're trying to solder it. 'Solderless design' my ass, not everyone has no tools. Sell me the normal kind, you bastards. As a side note, full sized headphones also keep my ears warm in winter.

I hate earbuds. I'm wearing some now by neccessity only.I also have the kind that go behind your head, or clip to your ears. That leaves me little choice. For my mp3 player, I have a Sony MDR-V300 set whose 12-foot cord I have shortened for portability. They're a home stereo set, but aren't too bulky. Actually, this is my second set of these things. They're pretty tough as well - wore the first set in all weather (including -40C temperatures and driving rain) for two years without incident until finally, my amateurish cable-splice broke for the third time and was too short to cut off and do again. Just have to be careful with some players, as the long, bulky plug puts alot of stress on headphone jacks.

The name alone is enough to make me hate them.
