  2. Wow im glad to hear such positive reviews cause i wanted to see it but a little wary on Ludicris's acting, i didnt know if he could lol. but sounds like an interesting movie and i will most definatly see.
  3. Matt Good- Life beyond the minimum safe distance
  4. haha wow.. these are all very interesting opinions. For some odd reason it reminds me of the game Civilization and all the political pressure involved, and how it all just came down to nuclear war etc lol while i certainly hope that it doesnt happen a war of sorts is likely. A lot of people say that WWIII has already happened, but it was a war of economies etc.. All interesting opinions of course the solution is one that neither will agree with or actually commit to which is of course disarmament. Put it this way, there is not one human made weapon that hasnt been used, they are all tested and or used in battle, so unfortunatly the development of weapons and their use is not likely to end anytime soon. Depressing huh?
  5. lol im agnostic, i dont even know if i believe god exisits, but, i really wish they could have gotten a more liberal interum pope. It kinda bothers me they have the power to end so much suffering and are not, is that really acting "christian"?
  6. WoW... okay... This is a very eithical, moral, legal issue we are delving into here and its really touching nerves. Im not going to get into jurisprudence here or anything but for starters no matter the crime, the death penalty is never ever justified. I know people are going to say "well if it was your mother raped and killed would you want him dead?" and my answer is still no. I love my mother, dont get me wrong, but id rather let him sit and rot in a jail cell, death is simply too easy, its a way out of responsibility. Plus if anyone has ever been in a prison (yes i have, and no not for a crime) they are not happy places, and they are far from a cake walk. So i dont want to hear any bullshit about prisoners getting a free ride, they hardly have justice inside the cell let alone outside of the cell. Plain and simple dealth penalty is for nations who are barbaric and regressive.
  7. Bahaha, Jon Stewart is hilarious
  8. haha yah its kinda my own term, not really poppy but i think i was introduced to them in the summer and i guess thats why they remind me of something you would listen to in the summer, plus their pretty upbeat, so i guess thats also why. lol
  9. Yah but i think every province has a problem with one of the main three political parties, becuase lets face it, they've all screwed up. Yay Anarchism.
  10. Im downloading it right now, ganna see if its any good, the synopsis perked my attention
  11. Anyone heard of them? They are a fun band to listen to, kinda summerish music, well reminds me of summer haha i dont know why so dont bother asking, but if you havent heard them give them a go.
  12. Yah i agree with you guys, and GC and SP can choke on shit as far as im concerned, horrible bands. ;)
  13. One of those, stick with the devil you know situations. The more likely alternative is not any better, and in fact, worse. And the best possible scenario ( NDP ) will not happen, especially this election.
  14. john milton's 'paradise lost' touches on that topic a bit... the whole idea of 'god's plan'. this is of course, milton's own thoughts on the topic, not necessarily my own. just something interesting to consider. when satan falls, he realizes that no matter what he does, it all fits into god's plan. he could do the most horrible of acts, but because everything fits into god's plan, nothing he does is truely evil since it all fits into god's plan, which is purely good. so whatever satan does, he can't be a true rebel. so yeah, that negates the whole idea of free will. also, a character in the film "waking life" (good movie, you all should see it if you haven't) argues that at its simplest, our lives are governed by chemical reactions. when i have a thought, it's basically just electricity passing through chemicals in my brain. but when i have these thoughts, is it me thinking these first or am i just doing this because of the chemical reactions in my body? so how do we know that existence itself isn't the same sort of thing? how do we know that we're all not just one big chemical reaction just going through the motions? the dude said it better, but hopefully you get the jist of it. finally, i would just like to add something for all the people here who think that people who belong to a certain religion or faith are somewhat weaker or more dependant and therefore aren't thinking for themselves and just 'sheep'. your faith in your own intellect is the same thing as those people's faith in a higher power. WAKING LIFE = BEST MOVIE EVER. I saw it earlier this year and was blown away, not for the type to enjoy just sitting back and vegging out though, you have to understand a lot of terminology that some people ( no offence but younger people) may not understand. But great movie to get you thinking. Plus Alex Jones makes a cameo ( he's that red dude freaking out in his car with the microphone) hilarious paranoid dude, but some of his stuff is worth loooking at.
  15. hahah well thats cool, we all like different stuff lol
  16. For sure, much love to Dead Poetic
  17. I think that it's actually hurting their careers more than advancing them. Polls show that about 70% of Americans think it was completely inappropriate of the politicians to get involved in this, and that the government shouldn't be involving themselves in the personal affairs of this family. Although Americans are disagreeing with this one case, they will soon forget that they are angry and this only furthers the right wing religious claws into the country. Thats how i meant its advancing their careers, like what they want to do with the country which is kinda a step backward. There is no division between church and state with these types in power.
  18. I have talked a lot with my ethics professor about this issue. I think Marx definatly hit it on the nose with "religion is the opiate of the masses" that guy was ahead of his time. Secondly there has been a lot of research about humanity and how as humans get together we tend to try to explain things, and explaining why and how etc we are here is just one of the many attempts to a situation we simply cannot answer. Biologically speaking, there is a lot of research that suggests that as humans we have a NEED to explain things biologically, there is a payload of endorphins sent to the brain when we figure things out, that " ah ha!" moment. IM not saying its a lot of endorphins it is a small payload, its just that feeling you get when you figure something out and it all makes sense. So since we want that feeling more and more we attempt to explain things more and more even if we are completly wrong, and this is where religion comes in. When looking at religion its so full of contradictions and stupidity it becomese clear it is simply a social construction. We create the reality we live in. The question i love to give die-hards of religion is: " If god is omnicient, and all religions believe it is, than how can we have free will?" it is simply impossible, you cannot have a creater knowing exactly what your going to do, and have free will to do what you want at the same time. That was really the final nail in the coffin for me in terms of religion. Its all a bunch of hooey!
  19. I was never really used to gay guys till i got to university. In all honesty it really did freak me out, I felt extreamly awkward around them. Then i came to unveristy and had several gay guys hit on me and it forced me to deal with the situation as nicely as possible becuase i dont believe in treating people poorly. After several encounters I have now become so used to it, its really normal i feel comfratible being friends with them, its a liberating feeling really, i feel like before i was just not alllowing people into my life from my own fears. And it was really that, a fear, i cant in any way defend it, but I like that now thats over with.
