In At Last There Is Nothing Left To Say did anyone notice the picture of a naked woman? I was just reading parts of the book, looking back for the first time since I finished it and I realized it was there. Hmm I kind of would hav preferred it not there..

I think it's a state of mind. You know how madness and creativity can go hand in hand? Van Gogh, Virginia Wolfe, etc. Except with Matt it's not quite so mental disorder-ish. I really like everything that he writes, it takes me far away. ;) He says that he doesn't call anything he does poetry, it's just stuff that he writes down. I'm the same way, if I wrote down anything I wouldn't call it poetry, it's just a journal with crappy formatting.

I don't believe that high school needs to be the epitome of anyone's existence. Definitely not mine at least. On Bowling For Columbine Moore interviews the creator of South Park, and he talks about how high school kids are told by everyone that what they are now is what they always will be... If you are a loser now, you'll be a loser forever, which is usually very far from what will actually happen. He mentions the principals, teachers, and guidance counsellors who tell the kids that if they don't get great grades and develop these essential social skills in high school, then they will never be successful. The South Park guy was right on, I agree with everything he said there. I agree with Matt too.

I just watched the Going Coastal segment w/ Matt. ;) It took all morning but I wasn't doing anything anyway. Having seen the whole thing, I think that high school just wasn't his scene. Like how so many people say that high school was the "best four years" of their life, he's the opposite of that. I think Matt's view on high school is the same as mine. It was so good that I did see that, and I also saw most of the thing on eTalk Daily w/ Matt also. Very good timing when I was channel surfing.

I kind of guessed that they were fake lol... it seemed like something he would do.

I voted Coles Notes. This one "You Are Here. I Know Because I Can See You From Over There." is cute but not so good as a book title I think.

How big is it now? You don't have to go to any trouble, it'll still probably be too big ;). It takes 25 minutes to download a 4 minute song for me so I don't know about an entire episode of a show... Thanks anyway!

Lol that's so sweet ;) . Isn't that adorable? That's exactly the kind of thing that I love about him. I'm kind of like that too, even though I say I'm the intellectual type. I mostly pick up my work and do it at home so I don't go by my locker much either... I hope they don't cut my lock off this summer. I really want to see the whole thing sometime, if anyone knows when it is coming on MuchMusic again, please inform me, thanks. (I would download it but my internet is not fast enough to download it in under... 6 hours.)

Moi aussi.. I am mostly the intellectual type as well. Yes that is how I think, but I don't think that way about any musician, that is reserved almost solely for when it comes to Matt ;). He's just so attractive to girls like me - a great match. I don't think he liked high school. He said that he was like a lot of other people: just wanting to get out of that place when all of the BS ends and you get to the real world. Even better  I just love that lack of school spirit. Unfortunately it probably means that he didn't try his hardest. Crusader - You don't know what you are missing  The hormones make everything Matt even better

Ah "Maximum Traitor" does make more sense. ;) I want to get any new book of his as soon as it comes out.

Lol about him having a breakdown. I think Matt would be a great PM. What I don't understand is how there are so many good people out there like Matt but we somehow always end up with the politicians that we've got. I like Mayor David Miller of Toronto though. I would vote for Matt... if only I could. I don't think he'll be running either, but it's a good thought. ;)

I don't think that we need to take all that we are consuming, not with all of the renewable methods of energy out there. If oil went up to $20 a litre over the next few years how many people would be driving then? What will it take to get people to want to choose a better way?

Aloha Animal Farm is a great book. ;) Michael Moore is very talented. And from Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Anya said, "People can so rarely be exchanged for goods and services." So money just helps sort that out. On democracy, here's a quote:"The greatest fallacy of democracy is that everyone's opinion is worth the same." Robert Anson Heinlein, 1907-1988 (American science fiction writer) I'm not quite sure what my point is, maybe I'll figure that out later.

Agh no such luck ;). I called the Mod Club Theatre today and they said there's NO way anyone under 19 can get in. Dan - How old are you?

A year or two ago I heard that Matt was working on a novel. Has anyone heard anything about that? I was doing some research on his book "At Last There Is Nothing Left to Say" and I came across this but I haven't heard anything since. "Maximum Trader" sound familiar to anyone?

Matt's music has always been somewhat political, only now it plays a bigger role. In Last of the G.A., there are a few politically oriented tracks, or at least some reference. BM is probably his least political CD. I like his new style, even if WLRRR is not my favourite CD right now. It's good to see his music evolve and not see him in the same place as a few years ago. You can tell that he's older, both lyrically and in his singing. I love that his music is a reflection of himself, so if politics is what he wants to write about, then it's alright by me.

I hope he remembers some of the people he meets. I definitely would want him to remember me. But how do I do it without taking my top off? just kidding.
-
Lol lauren, that was exactly what I meant. ;) If Matt really were at my high school, before his CDs, would I have seen the Matt we love today? Hmm I really like to think I would have... In September I'm going to have to do some sort of talent search.

I heard Hello Time Bomb in grade 6 on TV and I loved it. I got Beautiful Midnight for Christmas in grade 7 and it was automatically my favourite CD ever. And I've been hooked since. Matt-mania returns in full force every time he releases a new album and it is always good. ;) I just love everything and I'm so glad I found him and his music.

A day with him ..ahh that would be great. I was talking to this girl on MSN a few weeks ago and she said she saw him walking around downtown Toronto a couple of months ago. I wish I was there. If I got a chance to meet him like that, it would blow my mind. I'd make sure to get in a couple of really close hugs and a kiss on the lips (not French of course... I have more respect for his marriage than that). Topics of conversation > I'd talk about non-governmental organizations, try to get to know him a lot better and whatever else I felt like talking about. When I finally do meet him I'll have to try to keep the giggly and ditzyness that comes along with meeting favourite musician under control so I don't make him run away.

Impressive collections folks. As for me, I have: Last of the G.A., Beautiful Midnight, Avalanche, and WLRRR. I borrowed AOB from my library for so many months (renew, renew, renew). I was at the mall today and I saw the Underdogs CD but I didn't have enough $ but I'll have it soon enough. I'm considering eBay to get some other ones though.

That seems to be the female consensus... we'd all want to get it on with him. Makes me wonder how much action he really got in high school? And if there's any budding Matthew Good at my own school...
-
That's the turn his music has taken: more serious less fun. It's alright although I did like the old stuff. His music is more grounded and less crazy so his videos will have to show that I suppose. I wouldn't mind a bit of the old Matt's videos, like in Load Me Up when he gets all wet running around from those people.

Any artists who sound like MG that you know of?
mg_forlife replied to hungte's topic in Matthew Good
I'm wondering why he chose to put Annabelle up on the Amnesty site rather than something more mainstream that would attract a lot more fans. We obviously like his voice, but, and I hate to say it, maybe it doesn't appeal quite as much to other people? In an article his voice was described as "clinging to the edge of a cliff". I love it but just maybe some people don't love it as automatically. Also maybe he doesn't want to be some huge star, maybe he's comfortable with his status now? -
It's so great to have a place to talk about MG. A place where people actually know things about him and are willing to talk about him. I also love how fast people post! Thanks guys for a great first day of posting. ;)
