Global warming is real. Hell, SOME of the changes may be natural as we DO have some scientific evidence to suggest that something of a MUCH lesser and less severe nature occured in the distant past. However, we are responsible for current problems. Yes, we do need to make changes NOW. However, some organizations and governments are trying to claim that we need to COMPLETELY change our world and life style SIGNIFICANTLY, using limits and suggestions that are SO extreme, no one wants to take them seriously. We need to start small. FUEL efficient vehicles, flourescent bulbs, energy efficient products. Some corporations should bite their "profit tongues" and opt to lose some money now to promote cheaper energy efficient products. Who knows, maybe with our energy savings, we will buy MORE products, thus replacing or improving corporate profits. We can go from there. More R&D in environmentally efficient products. We don't need to change our life styles so much that everything we know has to go bye-bye. We just need to encourage and promote (by reducing costs) energy and environmentally efficient products. Kudos to corporations such as Intel for releasing computer chips that use less and less power (40-60 watts), Toyota and Honda for their new high MPG vehicles, and other corporations that have sought to make cost efficient low energy products.

Ehh, I agree to an extent. I do see, locally, the growing belief in teens that society owes them the world on a silver platter. "We should not work, we should have all our dreams NOW, and we do not need to work for it". As well, I see the trend in retail stores in my area, of staff gabbing in corners and ignoring you, even if you try to get their attention. Of course, interfering with their discussion is "rude and offensive". Is there a snowball/landslide just beginning to occur within Canada now? Are we looking towards a, sad but true, "American" future of obese people who choose to launch lawsuits against EVERYTHING that offends them? "Oh no, you yelled at me and said 'jerk', I will sue you". Don't get me wrong - I know MANY Americans that are extremely concious about their well-being, emotional, mental and physical. Unfortunately, I must admit that after several discussions with American students, out of an average of 50, only a small handful provided intelligent responses to my questions. I have many American friends (young or old, that I have met online or personally), and while I value their friendship, I must admit only a small handful of them actually take the time to understand the world, look at the globe, read the news. I was rather dismayed to be asked "what's anti-histamine?" or "so, someone is sending me this thing by 'priority mail', what is it and is there anything else?" I recently was asked (I rejected) for $600 because this kid figured he could sell 30 products on eBay, take the money, not ship them, and not get in trouble.

Youths Smoking Black Market Cigarettes
ReaperACI replied to Bizud's topic in Politics and Debate: WRONG!
Agreed. Education is the first step although I believe there has been an increase in educational awareness of the effects and damages of MANY dangerous drugs, substances and compounds. UNFORTUNATELY, we have the effect and belief on some of society of "If it makes me feel good now, what does it matter later?". Some people just DO NOT want to look to the future. They want to have the world given to them on a silver platter and DO NOT want to work for it. Sure, some people don't know seriously what damage is occuring because of the substance being ingested or inhaled, whether it be cigarrette smoke, aspartame, acrymalide, oxy-contin or any number of other drugs. However, there are people that DO know the harm that is occuring but choose to have the "feel good" benefit of NOW, and hope that society can fix them later. Prohibitions are not effective against the reckless, stupid. Hell, some people smoke/take drugs/illegal substances just because "it's illegal, look how rough and tough I am for doing it and getting away with it for now". Would we see LESS substance abuse if people were told "Look, screw your bodies up all you want, it's OK, you won't be punished, but we won't be responsible if you harm yourself"? Then, what of the trend in a country such as the United States, where people jump on lawsuit bandwagons when they are "allowed" to do something that harms their "physical, emotional and mental" well-being? Would everyone be popping oxy-contin and sueing the government for allowing it? "Oh please, HOLD our hands, it's your fault we ruined our lives". We DO need to look to society's better and brighter future, but it's the people as much as the role models, education systems, law enforcement and government. People need to take action and say "THIS IS NOT RIGHT". Yes, people do that, but what effect does it have? The only true way to eliminate the production of harmful substances is to eliminate the need. Unfortunately, it goes back into "People need to be educated...and smart enough" to realize what they are doing. -
The Rosetta Codex by Richard Russo and the Cthulhu Mythos by H.P. Lovecraft (need it for a personal project - people stare when I tell them H.P. Lovecraft)

Mine is on vibrate to be unobstrusive but I have Wonderwall by Coldplay & I'm going to also put the intro from 99% of Us is Failure on there too. It'll sound weird but I like being weird.

They were excellent in Red Deer and took the drunk ranting from the guy in the audience really well. Definitely a highlight and an excellent choice for the intro!

It's cancelled unfortunately, I love SG1. This season has been a tad weak though, humourwise, but I think Vala adds the necessary humour.

Amazing, that explains what those bizarre pulsating lumps are..time to take the Anti-Pulsating Lump remover!

Rogers and ScotiaBank love calling me. Most telemarketers and scammers now spoof their phone # to 000123456789 blah blah. It's annoying. I love being 'pre-approved' for credit cards from obscure banks I've never heard of ;)

He's 'emoish'? How so? I wouldn't say that. I couldn't agree more. Matt Good is good because he's unique and his music has meaning and (bad choice of wording?) can move any given listener much more than the 'mindless' crap out on the radio now. (Thinks back to Matt Good's MMM rant about rap videos)

I've supported Matt Good since I first saw The Future is X-Rated on T.V several years ago and then got one of his albums...after seeing the message he likes to get across in his music and what he does to avoid being just another pop artist that does dumb music, I've promoted him to my friends. Although, I'm one of the only people I know who KNOWS Matt Good but it seems like he has a strong fan base. I think the quality of the music has probably done more for him than just having high sellers then fading away. And as another poster pointed out, Our Lady Peace and other similar bands were awesome for a few years but faded away. (I stopped listening to them after they released that bizarre and uncharacteristic album a few years ago..) Matt Good's done very well IMO in the past 10 years. I'd donate/pay/buy Matt Good tracks, albums and videos before I'd do so for the other 'mindless' "artists". As for longevity of an artist, I'd love to see Matt Good continue making records but generally, it gets a little difficult after so long. Look at the artists who continually try to make albums year after years for decades. I won't name any but I wish some of them would move on before they start making music from hospital beds and in walkers ;) I see myself as an avid Matt Good supporter for many years to come.

Can't tackle, can't shoot sounds a lot more clear than what I thought it was. *Listens to it and thinks I hear Untackle my shoe* I swear he does say shoot at the end of that though. It kind of sounds like Can't Tackle *something* shoot or shoe. I swear I hear a t-sound there though. Ahh now I'm going to go crazy figuring this out ;)

He's good some talent but needs to re-direct it and try something ultra-new to go in the right direction or else he'll be like Rick Berman or any other burned out Producer/Director/filmmaker. His other movies like The Village, Signs, and The Sixth Sense all were pretty good...but the problem now is he's done the same general idea over and over and other movies have IMPROVED on it. (What was that horror with the twist at the end where she is possessed by the 100+ year old spirit of a former slave?) I haven't seen this movie yet but plan to, heard some positive reviews. He's got the right idea, just needs to find something unique or new now...

Depends where you want to start. After the show or 'alternate' reality, etc? (I haven't been keeping up with them as much, been following String THeory for Voyager and the Taurus Reach TOS universe series. It's interesting getting into novels like S.C.E, and other series which involve ships like the Excelsior and other crews.) Some of the interesting novel series based on DS9 is "Worlds of Star Trek, Book 1-3", The Gateway series (Covers MULTIPLE novel plots. It contains two DS9 novels as well as other Star Trek eras. (Star Trek: Deep Space Nine) Millennium (Star Trek: Deep Space Nine) Prophecy and Change (Star Trek: Deep Space Nine) Unity The last two novels listed were excellent and most closely follow the continuation of the main series and are followed by a brief series involving a Jem'Hadar sent by Odo to learn about human existance and leads to some uh...interesting experiences. For the most recent novelizations to continue the series (and begin a new plot), start at Rising Son, then follow it with Unity, Warpath and then Fearful Symmetry. Also, try The Left Hand of Destiny (Book One and Two)...a Klingon based novel. Also, there's Mission Gamma #1-4 which are also OK.

Oh God!!!! Matt Damon as Captain Kirk is terrible. I agree, DS9 or Voyager would make kickass movies but jesus, I thought Enterprise proved prequels = suck. Bleh. I miss Angel too, loved that show ;)
