  1. P.C.P. - Manic Street Preachers
  2. I'm rather gutted. He did so much good by helping animals (rehab'ing at the zoo or right there in the bush) & educating people about animals. He's left a legacy behind in his zoo and television shows. I heard cardiac arrest was caused by the sting which is what killed him, but we'll likely learn of the exacts in a few days. I feel terrible for his family - Terri was out on a hiking trek. Don't know who the kids were with. He was simply an inspiration for life in general, no matter what you think of animals or his relationship with them - he just had so much passion for what he did, and with the best of intentions and good will, he did what was in his power. Cheers to that. Cheers to Steve.
  3. I think he's alright. Maybe not having a great night, but he'll wake up tomorrow. He posted a picture called Lorazepam Angel on his Flickr page sometime ago, so he's likely on that drug which is related to Diazepam (Valium) and is a CNS depressant. It aids sleeping for those suffering insomnia from severe anxiety, which he could quite likely be going through, so perhaps the haze is from a night-time dosage? I suppose the only course of action for a fan is to send him a supportive email.
  4. (Slight hijack, sorry.) I think the simplicity of that lyric is great. He's stating a situation ("ASR") and the 2nd half of the lyric defies what that situation represents to a lot of people easily swayed by governmental propaganda. Compared to the current mainstream, I have no qualms saying that it's superior. It's a simple, common sense response to something that lacks common sense entirely. *steps off the soapbox*
  5. The "special effect" star thingie that went from the bottom left to the top right just slayed me. I laughed until I stopped!
  6. I had to listen to both to make up my mind, it's been awhile since I've listened to LOTGA. OotO drew me in more than SWW, so OoTO it is.
  7. (Full-lengths and decently-sized EP's only) Avalanche WLRRR LOTGA Underdogs LA BM tAoB Raygun
  8. I believe Matthew and Ed would get along wonderfully. I'll admit it's a sort-of goal of mine to somehow get some of Matt's catalogue to PJ (which might actually be a possibility). I think they'd appreciate Matt's diversity re: songwriting, the vocals, his intelligent lyrics, and also his feelings towards the industry and charity involvement. They are very similar in many respects. That said, realistically, Matthew would definitely open for PJ. Matt sells out 1,000-seaters in Canada, whereas PJ sells out 15,000-20,000-seat arenas all over the world. Besides, even if you advertised an MG headlining show with PJ as openers, the PJ diehards would snatch up the tickets in about 30 seconds anyway. ;)
  9. I used to write him letters all the time in my teen years. I actually got a response to the first one in '98 (just a silly thing about being a free roadie) and a few years later, he told me that he came to recognize my handwriting and joked about me getting some sort of sponsorship deal with Texas Instruments for an electric typewriter or some suchness. I still write more than my fair share of emails, I'm sure. ;) Also in my teen years, out of sheer boredom, I wrote MATTHEW GOOD BAND at the top of a plain sheet of paper and proceeded to find every smaller word and acronym in the name, using each letter only once. I think I got to about 250.
  10. I think they can be a bit over the top sometimes. I, too, was blinded by lights during shows, naturally on the WLRRRevue, and at the acoustic show I had the unfortunation of being right in line with that small spotlight at the back of the stage. I happen to be one of those light sensitive types so it can get pretty aggravating. Not to say the lighting's not well done, but the distraction/annoyance level can get high when you're in the first few rows.
  11. Of recent, Poor Man's Grey has always been the most fun for me. Runner up is Near Fantastica.
  12. There's an interview (post-MGB) where he says, referring to rh: "They're wicked, don't get me wrong." Pretty sure it was a Chart interview, but it was in the magazine, not online. I'll see if I can find it in the next couple of days. I don't think his earlier comments were against radiohead's music so much as against the hype and the musical ignorance of younger fans who thought "Kid A" type of stuff had never been done before.
  13. Lyrically I like War is Over, but I prefer the musical stylings of Every Name is My Name. Hmmmm.
  14. Sorry if they've been mentioned prior; I read the whole thread but it's hard to remember everything that's been mentioned thus far. While the list is long, hopefully the repeats are at a minimum. Going All the Way: "Those missile men with their master plan / Don't get paid to understand" Change of Season: "I feel like swimming in your apathy - you know I'd love to be your conscience when it calls" Empty Road: "It keeps me looking for a place in your heart ... it's all I know" While We Were Hunting Rabbits: "The sky, its stars like fortune, drilled me" Life Beyond the Minimum Safe Distance: "I dream only of sleeping" Sort of A Protest Song: "I was a fireman in a time of fires ... and I was paralyzed" Inescapable Us: "We are smaller maybe than what we can't get around" The War is Over: "When I'm alone, I am in pain"
  15. For what it's worth, I'm new here but a longtime fan of over 10 years. I don't feel the same concern you do 'cause I personally like where he's headed. His track record is that of every release being quite different from the last. While the next record may not prove to your liking either, the possibility is there that you may like the one after. Ya' know? With me, it's always been a couple of songs per record that make it really hard for me to choose a favourite album because my indifference to them stands out when I have to think about it. Avalanche if not for SFAG, BM if not for FXR or HTB, etc. I imagine feeling 'meh' toward FXR would get me a flame or two! I don't think anyone can really argue with your feelings about the newer music - logically impossible! They are just demos and rough sketches of songs from what I can gather thus far. All we can do is wait (sounds like a job for Captain Obvious, I know. ;) ) I hope you end up liking it though, if only for the sake of not feeling alienated from a favourite artist.
  16. (Hello.) India. Trek to where his Dad was born, which was somewhere in the South if I remember correctly. That might be kinda cool for him.
