  1. Uhhh I remember breakin' up with my stripper girl friend at that show...throwing my bass around my head and the strap broke sendin' my beloved halfway across the stage... That sucks, but ya' have to admit, that's kinda rawk. You didn't seem upset during the show (that I recall). I specified that show only because it was my first MGB show & the only time I got to see you with the band. I flashed you some devil-rawk horns, and since your hands were busy, you gave me a devil-rawk face back. Then I met you at the fan tent afterward, but I was a bit (read: extremely) hyperactive and went through the line twice, and that's all we need to remember about that. I still have the white shirt with the Underdogs back cover on it ... don't wear it now 'cause the image started to get all cracky-like but it's neat to have something from back then. P.S. I listened to The Slickjack's stuff, very cool. I like the rawkabilly. *It's pretty rare that I'll write 'rock' like 'rawk', but it seems appropos at the moment. That was the last show I did with Matt...wow. That WAS a long time ago!!! And why should I seem upset? When you unload shitty baggage like her all you wanna do is ROCK!!!!! ;) Yeah, I'm 2 months late. (Internet pregnant?!) The type "smiley" used made me think that I'd accidentally drudged up some bad memories, that's why I thought it was a negative thing. Uhhh ... you like hockey? Still BMX'ing at all? Regarding the Underdogs release, I think one of the gigs was at Abbotsford's A&B Sound, but I wasn't allowed/able to go. (On a useless note, Abby's A&B Sound is the first, and last, place I saw Nickelback play, back when "Fly" was all the rage.) Does my life revolve around music - not as much as it used to, I'm afraid. I grew up with it, so it's uncomfortable to not have it around me, though. My Stepdad is a multi-instrumentalist - played bass in a band that opened for Heart once, just before they got big - and my Mom sings (they're a duo who play Royal Canadian Legion-type venues and they also have a kid's show.) I do have a trumpet that I hope to spend some quality time with in the near future. I played for 3 months in junior high, switched to slacking off (percussion) for the rest of high school but never really excelled at it. I should have stayed with trumpet throughout my teens, I'd be so kick-ass by now. Oh, well. The nu-metal thing turned me off radio. One of my least favourite concert moments was in The Vogue prior to an MGB show and they played Limp Bizkit ... and my friend and I were aghast at all of our peers, earnestly singing along to that shit. Never got over it. I'm a child of angsty grunge, damn it! Give me "Them Bones" over that crap! I am generally begrudged to admit I like Hanson's "This Time Around". I think it's a well-crafted pop-rock song. I also like Pet Shop Boys' "West End Girls," Duran Duran's "Ordinary World" and "Come Undone," "Roam," by the B-52's, "The Picard Song," by Dark Materia, "Free Your Mind," by En Vogue, "This Used to be My Playground," by Madonna, & "You Can Call Me Al," by Paul Simon. Aaaaand I've proceeded to write about myself far too much. Hwyl am rwan!* (*Cymraeg. Spiffy/crazy language.) Oh, and I hope your brain is all better.
  2. The tags on the new pictures say "Gastown" and "Warehouse" ... so I'd assume he's there. ;)
  3. Don't really know how much I can discuss. But the birdie is involved with the record. I just wanted to pass the info along to whet the appetites.

  5. A birdie told me that the aim is for a June release. ;)
  6. I realize it's going back quite a ways, but do you remember any particularly wicked gigs with MGB? *coughpleasesayEdgefest98Vancouvercough* Strange fan encounters? In case there's complete memory loss of that time in your life, any wicked road/gig story will do. Rock stories rule.
  7. You're a vulture.
  8. The thing is, some of the side effects can cost you. I'm specifically referring to the ones that can make you drowsy and too tired to function properly, like Effexor. If I were to have my judgement affected at my job, I could be seriously injured or get killed, and possibly run the risk of endangering others. One only gets so much time and money for vacation ... and seriously, who wants to blow that time working through shitty side effects? ;) However, I definitely understand what you're saying. It unfortunately isn't always tangible to give the drugs a chance if it fucks things up too much in too short a time. -- It's on the brain so I'll confess it - The other thing that scares me from trying them is dealing with people who would notice the change in me, for better or for worse. Colleagues, mostly, and then family & friends. I always get rankled if someone points out a change in me, no matter if it's positive or negative. Just a stupid quirk of mine, I guess; perhaps I don't want that level of unsolicited scrutinization aimed at me, even if its meant well.
  9. A thousand Danke Schoen's! ;)
  10. My sister-in-law is a pharmacy technician, and she says a lot of people come in for A-D/A-A scripts but aren't totally aware of the potential side effects, or even why they've been prescribed the meds in the first place. (I.E. patient comes in & describes symptoms, perhaps unaware of the physical issues being caused by mental/emotional distress, & doc says 'here, take this' without explaining anything). They tend to come from the same doctors, of course, and there is rarely any follow-up. My stepsister was put on Effexor at age 13, which obviously didn't help matters much. Now, at 18, she's been on Lithium for roughly 2 years, and in my personal opinion, she's not bi-polar at all. She was a mood-swinging teenage drama queen that should have had more actual counseling to deal with her troubles. I hope one day she tries life without them, just so she knows how she really is, especically now that she's basically an adult and can make a truly informed choice. Going off Lithium would be hell, though. I should be on meds, but I have anxiety (ha!) about going into the Doc's office and saying as much (despite an attempt on record at age 14 - I suppose I like to let the family/doc think it was a teenager thing. There's a lot more in recent years that just about everyone is in the dark about). I guess the stigma still gets to me sometimes. I used to be of the mindset that meds were "the easy way," but back then I was a teenaged moron, trying to find something to be strong about in a state of complete helplessness. Obviously, I've since become educated on the subject and have changed my tune entirely. ;)
  11. I only read this thread to point out the terrible grammar of the title: "What's The Latest Blog Post Mean?" If we expand the contraction, we get, "What is the latest blog post mean," which clearly makes no sense. I think what you meant was, "What does the latest blog post mean?" And, to that effect, I have no opinion. ;)
  12. MGB soundchecked that on the first Going Coastal/MuchWest special when they were on the island. In all likelihood, that's as close as Matthew'll get. ;)
  13. I prefer Apparitions. I like its melody more than Strange Days'. Lyrically, both are of Matthew's best, though, which makes it a tough call.
  14. Message in a Bottle - The Police April 5th - Talk Talk That Joke Isn't Funny Anymore - The Smiths Eat My Dust You Insensitive Fuck - Catherine Wheel A Sort of Homecoming - U2
  15. "Beautiful Losers" is a Leonard Cohen novel.

  18. I *heart* you XD Matt Good and David Usher might be interesting, but for some reason, I have a feeling they wouldn't get along or something... Moist and MGB toured together twice, both in '99 (Edgefest in the summer, and together with gob and Serial Joe in late November). Those guys have known each other for a long time and I never heard of any falling out, myself. Matt + James Dean Bradfield - so long as Matthew does the lyrics.
  19. Wow, I had no idea this kind of crap existed in the post-sec. universe. Study what you study and realize there's a place in this world for people who aren't the same as you. That goes for Engineering students VS Lit. students VS Business students VS anything/everything else. All education has merit and value in its own right.
  20. Master/Slave - Pearl Jam November Hotel - Mad Season Dead Man Walking: The Score (mostly Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan & David Robbins) - particularly "The Possum," & "Helen Visits Angola Prison." Battle, Dungeon #2, & Dungeon #3 from the Genesis RPG "Sword of Vermilion". TV themes for Star Trek: TNG, ST: Voyager, & Oz. Main Theme for ST: First Contact Theme for Michael Palin's "Pole to Pole" travel-documentary. Blue Train - John Coltrane Keating's Triumph - Maurice Jarre (Dead Poets Society main theme) Vancouver-based band LOUD (you can hear their music in The Corporation - taiko drums and guitar + some keys & programming)
  21. Unfortunately, it happened to be one of those days where I went to school, instead of staying home and watching Much Music all day long, with a blank tape in the VCR ready to record when something cool came on. ;)
  22. Copyright weren't for kids.
  23. I'd heard about it a couple of weeks prior to AoB's release. I didn't buy it right away 'cause I wasn't really wanting to hear the last notes of a band I'd listened to for all of my teen years (13-19). I finally did, and I cried like a stupid little kid. I also had a nasty-arsed cold, so I also snotted like stupid little kid. I think what upset me the most was the loss of something that was a constant for me. I knew Matty was going to continue on, but I happened to suck at change in those days.
  24. Me, neither. When I uploaded Avalanche into my iTunes after I got my Mac Mini, I purposely left it out. Too much of a let's-hold-hands-and-sing-kumbaya feel to it with the la la la la's (or whatever - I don't think I've heard the song in at least 2 years).
  25. I don't think most folk here actually felt that he was going to off himself, so much as they were just worried, and human curiosity led to exploring all interpretations. Last night, I didn't think he was suicidal, just that he was having a more-than-usual hard time of things.
