  6. Shit, I'm a geek and I still hate Linux. I don't care how stable/secure/fast/whatever it is behind the scenes, the UI of every single build I've ever used is an absolute piece of shit. Sure, it's just as easy to use as Windows if all you want to do is open a program and click on shit in it. Beyond that, god help you if you want to change settings or get anything done. The fact that it is written by geeks is the problem -- geeks don't give a crap about how user-friendly the GUI is because they don't give a shit about the average user. They write it to cater to themselves and themselves alone. POS.
  7. If you think Edmonton is boring then you've never gone anywhere here except the fucking mall.
  8. Then everything will explode. Clearly. Exactly. The day he fallows through on his promises we're all doomed.
  9. Wow. I was annoyed that I missed it due to nobody actually saying when it would be on. I guess it's not such a big deal since he was on for so little time. What a waste.
  10. Ouch... That fucking hurts.
  11. Woot! I'm glad I'm not the only person who likes those two.
  12. Socially left. Economically center-right. Such is my vague understanding.
  13. The NDP are in the same position they were last election - one seat away from holding the balance of power. So close but not close at all. Chances are the Liberal speaker will stay, meaning 154 seats are needed instead of the 155.
  14. Nor was I. I expected kicking and screaming. Mostly screaming.
  15. No, I do agree that leaving a party is alright, so long as they don't join another.
  16. Yeah, he was, and he utterly shredded our social programs. Now he's reluctant to restore funding to them during our current boom. I'm not saying he's the worst leader we could have, but I think Alberta could do much better. I don't require a history lesson. I've not only been here, but am spending god knows how much money studying history, economics, and political science. I'm, as they say it, quite "up on things". I simply disagree with the conclusions you drew from the events. ecnarf: I think they may have, but a) it wasn't exclusive to Alberta farmers, b) they do shit like that for other provinces all the time. It's part of what they do.
  17. Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's a mathematical impossibility that they could actually win. Not impossible. Just 'fat-fucking chance'.
  18. Since prisioners are most likely to vote Liberal and not Conservative, I say let them vote!
  19. Yes. Last parliment was like that. They had a rather noticable voice but obviously were far from in charge. If you don't like Layton himself, remember that you SHOULD always vote for the candidate and the platform and not the leader (unless you are in Layton's own riding, that's obviously another matter).
  20. I agree that the system should vote for the candidate and not for the party. However, so long as we continue to place such importance on the party we should have rules preventing floor-crossing like Stronach pulled. Matt: If the system didn't allow floor-crossings, we simply wouldn't have such bi-elections as nobody would try to do it.
  21. Ditto In-fucking-credible. Fine Art is #2
  22. Your state has to join Canada as the 11th province. Then I'm sure he'll tour there.
  23. That's the thing right there. Klein has done nothing at all. He simply happened to be Premier when the oil and gas revenues started flowing in on a large scale. It is nothing he has done. He deserves no credit whatsoever for our current prosperity. If a blind, rabid monkey was Premier it'd have had the same effect.
  24. "as much as I do not want to see the Conservatives in power, it's still not a reason to change systems" That's the thing. People like myself have supported proportional representation for years, long before any Conservative threat arose. Perhaps more are drawn to the cause now, but that doesn't change the fact that it has been an issue for a long time now. "because our current one works pretty well in any event." I disagree. Our current system doesn't work well at all. Why should a party with around 38-40% of the votes potentially get over 50% of the seats (as the Liberals have many times in recent years) while a party with 4-6% (Greens) gets zero seats. With 4% of the popular vote the Greens should get 4% of the seats, which is 12 of them. The NDP with 14-18% of popular support is generally lucky to get 12 for itself. That is why our system does not work - because it does not represent the views of the minority unless enough of them are concentrated in a small area (in a single riding).
  25. Well that's why you don't play it on its own!
