Not that I'm a legal expert, but I don't think it's the name that's important. I think that if any "reasonably" person could assert whom it is about, then it can be slander. That being said, I believe that Matt is likely ampally vague.

Next time I go t van I'm taking Lauren so Anton will agree to meet me. Although I think the topic is beaten to death... if we're not going to post on it, lets move along...

I think this thread has got a little stale. It seems events like this always bring out the worst posters as well. Not that it really applies, but I would like to add a quote on the whole thing "Intelligent people discuss ideas, shallow people discuss people" Peace

^ Worst first post ever! I kid.

I can gzip the tarball and netcat it over to a waiting decompress and untar filter... It is the fastest form of file transfer... Thanks for the laugh... I might be a Mac user, but I'm not to much of a zealot...

I have no problem with OS X on any kind of computer. The problem is QOS. Apple doesn't want to support all of the hardware configurations out their. So to prevent Joe Blow from installing OS X, it not knowing how to render open GL on his video card, and him believing that the OS sucks, they prevent that kind of release. I do know how to get to most of the configuration options the GUI way. I prefer the terminal. Pop quiz if you can tell me how to list all files any given application has open (I do know the answer) OS X has a lot in common with it's UNIX and LINUX counter parts. All of the core system calls are POSIX. Which is why it is popular with developers. Their are differences in how memory allocation works (the paging system is different). Principally the difference is that OS X is one of a few market worthy micro kernel designs. Micro kernels rock, take an OS course about it. That's all I've got. If you don't have anything to contribute to the topic, DON'T POST! Peace

Finder -> Applications -> Utilities -> Terminal If it's not their, then it's not installed. Also: The NT kernel wasn't written from scratch. It still contains elements of DOS. I'll bet it it a fully 32 bit kernel, but it does contain ported code. "Windows NT is a 32 bit patch of a 16 bit gui built for an 8 bit operating system, designed for a 4 bit processor by a 2 bit company that can't stand 1 bit of competition." And I'm all for forming an Apple group. Then you could post your issues, and we could just ban all these windows n00bs from posting their mac nay saying statements. ALL HAIL APPLE, ALL HAIL APPLE, STEVE JOBS IS GOD. *cough* I don't know where that came from... Peace

I'm glad to hear you got it working. I was just going to give you the steps you needed. I would like to clarify a few things: First, this was not a problem with his macbook, it was a problem with his router not knowing his computer yet. I have the same kind of set up on my wireless network. It is totally impossible for any unknown computer to join the network, unless they can spoof your MAC address number, which is unchangeable on *most* cards. Second, I am a computer geek, who uses a mac. I have more power on the BSD subsystem interface than all of the windows users on this bored have combine. At least OS X is build on a kernel that was designed in the last 10 years (windows is still at it's core running the DOS kernel) Incidentally to get your mac address you typing "ifconfig -a" on the terminal, it's usually en0. Peace

This thread got kind of creepy...

Are you some kind of dealer, what do you deal?

hehe... NF is currently trying to get some swag together... I'll see if bumper stickers can be part of it.

Alright, this is to the newbies. Please, do not click the Report button when you mean to click the Quote button. Reports get filed for the moderators, and since the system is dumb, end up getting reviewed by all of us. The windows look totally different to (see attached). Thanks, ToadMan

LOL. I do however read that particular web-comic.

It funny how people say that... little do they realize... Mac is less of a computer and more of a transcendence...

You get two gold stars. One for your avatar, and one for your comments about Mac. p.s. Gold stars don't exist, sorry.

clearly you have never implement any large scale projects in Java. Though I will admit that the Win32 API is awful...

I think it's since they came up the learning tranny. That is, the transmission attempts to adjust it's shift points wrt the load on the engine. Example: My parents drive a newer truck, when they tow a trailer, the first day sucks for fuel. Then the chip has learnt the load requirements and adjusts the shift points to optimize torque. Ideally you don't need an overdrive on/off, because the car will figure out when it should shift.
-
I'd bank on it being a java problem... Java is the root of all evil.
-
I used to drive a Saturn station wagon... It had this neat little switch that made the transmission shift at higher RPM... so it basically gave you a bit more torque. You have to be careful with some older autos when shifting to 1 or 2, they didn't have an RPM shift lock, so if you are moving you can redline your engine.

oh man, use quotation marks... that's the little key next to the semi-colon ( ; ), it looks like "
