The Decemberists
reckoner replied to reckoner's topic in Music In General: David Bowie Appreciation Station
the new record is different, less folky. i would suggest checking out their myspace page to hear "o, valencia" to get a grip of some of the new material. i can't describe their record in one song cuz there are a lot of different styles on it. -
it's tuned like that. i don't know, i'll figure it out and let you know.
-
mariana's trench are some of the nicest guys i've met. and they have fuckin killer harmonies.
-
ah, the back button is so much easier though. i feel like the fool.

reckoner replied to sodamntired's topic in Music In General: David Bowie Appreciation Station
#1 = interpol - untitled "surprize, sometime i'll come around i will surprize you sometime, i'll come around when you're down" other good ones: art brut - emily kane abandoned pools - start over bloc party - so here we are radiohead - fake plastic trees (THAT is a love song) decemberists - red right ankle bright eyes - first day of my life broken social scene - anthems for a 17 year-old girl casiotone for the painfully alone - love connection elliott smith - let's get lost/twilight hayden - between us to hold the national - lucky you that's enough for now -
"coolest" Band?
reckoner replied to sodamntired's topic in Music In General: David Bowie Appreciation Station
can we be best friends? i would say them, or the decemberists. if this pic doesn't scream "cool", i don't know cool. -

i don't consider matthew bellamy's voice THAT "different". it's still easily accessable. -

the decemberists - the perfect crime 2 -
anyone here into them? picaresque was a gorgeous record. colin maloy's voice tends to push some people off though, i personally love it. i just got an advance of the crane's wife, the new record, and thus far, it is probably going to become one of my favourites of 2006. any thoughts?

there's got to be something more to money, it still doesn't sound right to me.

Placebo
reckoner replied to Shortcut To Moncton's topic in Music In General: David Bowie Appreciation Station
comparing placebo to muse... i suppose, in a sense. placebo is really solid power-chord alt-rock. muse is far too bombastic and wankerific to really compare the two. having seen them both live, they're both great british alt-rock. but the shit matthew bellamy of muse does is in-fuckin-sane. it's so much more compelling than anything brian molko could do. however, placebo's record are all good, but the majority of their songs are very formulaic and very similar. i don't find i can listen to more than one album at a time. meds is definitely their most interesting i think. -
Emily Haines & The Soft Skeleton
reckoner replied to c0rl0's topic in Music In General: David Bowie Appreciation Station
i think the album is gorgeous, but she isn't that great of a pianist, it's a lot of very simple stuff, and a lot of starts to sound redundant after awhile. "reading in bed" and "our hell" are fucking gorgeous though. -

yankee hotel foxtrot is one of my all-time favourite records. it's gorgeous from front to back. -
Wintersleep...

to get back on topic, i saw these guys opem for the constantines a couple years ago in a tiny bar, and though their records are amazing, i agree with them being a hundred times better live. -
the following albums definitely do this for me, send me to a whole other place, as opposed to just standing as great music: : interpol - turn on the bright lights : radiohead - ok computer : mgb - audio of being : the smiths - queen is dead : broken social scene - you forgot it in people : the national - alligator

The Dears New Album
reckoner replied to thewickernightmare's topic in Music In General: David Bowie Appreciation Station
i think gang of losers is my least favourite of them all, yet it has their most memorable songs. the album as a whole is not as strong i find. -
i would just like to say that it is still the original, not longer version, and it cost me ten, despite that price said five. i am not happy about this.

yowzaa!!!

the full version of money?

is there anywhere to find indestructible acoustic? i remember thoroughly enjoying it.
