  1. I like everything before the Cardinals, really. Gold, Rock and Roll, and Love is Hell are all excellent albums. I think it's good that he's stopped focusing on releasing 10 albums per year. Can't wait to pick up the Willie Nelson CD Tuesday that he wrote. He's posted some new stuff on his website, recently. Punk stuff. He'll occasionaly post an unreleased song.
  2. Bill Hicks. (edit: great. I'm the dork with him in my sig, too.) George Carlin Patton Oswalt (a very cool guy, I might add) Mitch Hedberg Brendan Walsh Doug Stanhope Ron White not, under any circumstance, "Larry the Cable Guy". Fake bastard.
  3. He also did a cover of "When The Stars Go Blue" which adds nothing new to the song and was already covered by The Corrs (with Bono). And Faith Hill did that horrible Janis Joplin cover...it goes on and on. Oh, this thread's about favorite country artists...crap.
  4. Pamela Anderson. Well, that can play an instrument anyway.
  5. Tim McGraw is a talentless hack. It must be so luxurious to have someone write a song for you about your own Dad dying. His wife is equally appalling, as she doesn't bring anything interesting to the table either. I think the two of them should perhaps die in a nice plane crash together simply for having the nerve to classify themselves as "The new Johnny and June." Johnny Cash is a definition of country. He has cowritten songs with Bob Dylan for one of his many theme albums throughout the sixties and seventies, but even those could easily be classified as country and not folk. If you'd like to say his first two albums under the Sun label were rockabilly, I could agree, but with over 100 albums of material that have been highly influential in not only country music but music as a whole, saying he's folk is off. However, pick up "Songs of Our Soil" to come close. When it comes to artists who are still alive, Dwight Yoakum has been fairly solid his whole career and is faithful to the roots of country music. The same can also be said of Brad Paisley, though he normally takes advantange of the novelty song. Nickel Creek is also a favorite. Their recording quality and playing ability is excellent. My wife enjoys the Dixie Chicks, but I find them above average at this point. I'm a sucker for anything Willie Nelson touches because is voice is like water and that sounds great on my system.
  6. Are there any decent looking people in Canada? Is the entire country occupied by mutant freaks or something? First Rush, now this...horse man. Celine Dion's face is contorted and freakish. The little kid from Sum 41 looks like he got peed on. Avril Lavigne could've doubled in The Ring (which is good as this implies she's left in a well in the middle of nowhere), and for the life of me I can't think of any Canadian sex symbols. Plus, they suck.
  7. or make the law, for that matter.
  8. I think that they're special in a sense that they are introducing something, almost a new form of British emo capturing the social elements of a new generation. This isn't to say the music itself is brilliant, but the album is fun enough to listen to. A few songs stand out for me as far as the band's potential is concerned, "A Certain Romance" being the best example in question. However, they're newest EP "Who The Fuck Are the Arctic Monkeys?", is a disappointment simply because they've let themselves get caught up in the hype and complain about the pressure. A big reason I enjoy Franz Ferdinand is that they honestly don't care what people think of them. They know the songs are paper thin, and know that quantity matters when you deal with that kind of genre. Arctic Monkeys haven't learned to ignore the press.
  9. Huge fan. I suggest you check out Bernard and Brett's new band, The Tears. They released a phenomenal debut last year. I think the early stuff is miles beyond anything else coming out of the UK at the time. While I like Coming Up and understand it is the era that most of the fanbase originates from, it's nowhere near as brilliant as the stuff with Anderson/Butler. After Coming Up, horse shit.
  10. Throw The R Away - The Proclaimers
  11. These Days - Jackson Browne life's falling apart, and sometimes you need the most depressing song you can think of just to let you know you're not alone. Funny how two wrongs can make a right.
  12. I hadn't listened to that album in years and now I'm scrambling through the boxes to find it. Since it's been revived, I always liked Something Corporate's "If You C Jordan", because it's this classic celebratory revenge song where the song itself is the revenge.
  13. well shit. I meant to say they suck. I saw them live here by chance, and because of my silent rule "if there's a chick in the band, they suck", I wasn't expecting too much. I guess the fact that there were two chicks meant they cancelled each other out and the show was good. Bought album. Pissed that the US got shorted a track (the best one, too). If I'd come from your position, my opinion might be different. It's very moody music, as it's not something I'll pop in if I'm bored or something. I guess I can describe it as soundtrack, maybe.
  14. Anyone else digging this stuff? I love the long, drawn out complexity of their songs and am anticipating their new album. In his blog, Murray Lightburn says that pepole compare him to Matt Good though I think this is bollocks. However, on the new album, there apparently will be a more stripped down sound (i.e. capable of playing live). There is a new song that was and I believe still is available for download. Ah. If anyone has "No Cities Left", do me a favor. Listen to the opening lines of 22: The Death of All The Romance to see if it "skips". Is this just me? I've played it back in multiple formats, on the US and Canadian version, and get this error.
  15. Giving away the basic premise of a well-known movie isn't a spoiler, by the way. I like him in his serious roles. The comedic roles were cute for a while but after Liar Liar it was just obnoxious. I think he is capable of much more and The Truman Show was really the first thing to show me that, so that will always be my favorite.
  16. brilliant film overshadowed by the obnoxious teenage wetdream that followed it.
  17. Let's see...Weezer's "Undone" is a blatant ripoff of "I Bleed" by The Pixies and for this reason I cannot fucking stand them.
  18. "Life, In A Nutshell" by Barenaked Ladies is a ripoff of "Mayor of Simpleton" by XTC. The same can be said with "Great Provider" ripping off "Dear God".
  19. Gotchyo fax wrong, ma'fucka! Sepllcheck that, bitches. s'cool, s'cool. we spellcheckin da hellout dis mo'fuggin thread, here BOOIIII
  20. Franz Ferdinand told me you're an insult to spellcheck. Morrissey, "We Hate It When Our Friends Become Successful", or some other whining, long-winded title.
  21. I Wanna Call It Love - Sondre Lerche
  22. Eleanor, Put Your Boots on - Franz Ferdinand
  23. that was crap. just watched it. kind of boring. it was good when ed harris was in it. plus, why all the sex? just felt odd.
