matt isn't exactly attracting new fans at this point in his career. he's got a relatively small but loyal group of followers and their average age is up around the point where most of them either dont have the time or interest to be monitoring a message board. i havent been to one of matt's shows or purchased any of his music in years, he doesn't appeal to me whatsoever anymore... i come here purely out of habit, and even so, my contributions (in terms of posts, because lets face it, i never really contributed anything else) to this place are a small fraction of what they used to be.

Bc Teachers On Strike?

call all the bullshit you want, i personally know three teachers at public schools who have their masters degrees -- two of them make $80,000+ and one makes 6 figures. -
Bc Teachers On Strike?
RicardoObviouso replied to MarcoBeltrami's topic in Politics and Debate: WRONG!
bc teacher's union opposed a multi million dollar plan to renovate the playgrounds of many schools and parks because they wanted the cash to go toward their collective bargaining agreement. an elementary school teacher with a masters degree earns over $80,000 under the current agreement. i'd say that's fair -- and they are asking for more money not because they are greedy and demand more money (every teacher i know is happy with their income) but because the provincial government can't offer them smaller class sizes or more job opportunities. it's part of negotiation -- buy them off. that's how unions work. it's actually cheaper to increase teacher's wages by 15% over 3-5 years than it is to lower class sizes and create more jobs by building schools. the provincial government is undergoing massive cuts to lower the deficit, unfortunately this is why nothing can be done -- there is simply no money... and why my son is going to private school for his entire life. -

are you denying that there was to be one last show, inclusive of yourself, dave, ian and rich, that the amount due to the band members was 6 figures plus and that it was cancelled because of the events of 9/11?
-
its even more, considering that the figure was exclusive of the cost of production, which isn't usually the case (meaning the band would earn the 6 figures just for showing up). the booking fee is typically all inclusive, so whats left over after the band pays the crew and all of the equipment, transportation/accommodation, etc. is what they keep for themselves. since then, both dave and matt have achieved significant personal success, and considering they still haven't reconciled, you shouldn't be surprised to think that they would indeed negotiate for a ton of cash if presented with the offer. however, this takes me back to my original point: there is no promoter out there willing to pay the kind of money that it would take to get them on stage for a reunion show, because it wouldn't be THAT big of a draw.
-
the band was offered crazy money* in 2001, to do one last show together and the deal was signed... then 9/11 happened and it was never revisited. money talks... its just that i don't think there is any one promoter out there who thinks that they could get their money back based on what it would cost. *by crazy money i mean six figures, which was more than double what they were being paid at their pinnacle for a live show and about 5-6x what the going rate is now to book matt at a show in a metro area.

Matt On George Stroumopoulous Tonight
RicardoObviouso replied to sodamntired's topic in Matthew Good
george brought up justin, and matt said "he's not his brother". originally, because of the inflection in matt's voice and his immediate change in demeanor, i took it literally, but thinking about it now, i believe what he meant was that justin doesn't have the same qualities as alex and therefore isn't someone that matt would stand behind... the reason why he apologized is because justin is actually involved in politics and alex isnt. essentially "justin is not as strong as alex" -

i think the crowd feedback is pretty common for any smallish venue. i've seen the hip at maple leaf gardens, an outdoor venue and in a nightclub. admittedly, i've also seen madonna in a large venue and in a very small venue, and same with coldplay... with audible interruptions or direct communication from the crowd in the small venues exclusively (althought it might have something to do with crowd noise when comparing a 18,000+ attendance to 900 or less). i've also seen a ton of shows at the commodore ballroom (bif naked, kid rock, limblifter, the odds, 54-40, donavon frankenrieter, gary jules, the raconteurs, etc etc) and every single time there's been random shouts or requests or comments from the crowd. sometimes they're gratified with a response, sometimes totally ignored. i think people feel more of a connection to the act when the venue is smaller, and so they are more likely to try to speak up and interact. people don't usually speak unless they want to be heard. the fact that matt plays pretty much exclusively at small venues leads me to believe that he would get a lot of crowd feedback as a byproduct, not because he attracts it.
