  1. That setlist is incredible. What an encore!
  2. Will Matt be doing an acoustic tour in Canada? Do we know at this point? Also, does anyone else think it a great idea for him to tour with his pianist? I think an "acoustic" tour with him and the pianist would be deadly. Just putting it out there.
  3. Agreed.
  4. I'm not saying the band didn't effect the material, I'm just saying they're not necessary (a reunion) in order for us to experience those albums live again. Matt and any back up band could do that.
  5. I say who cares? It's Matt who wrote it all and it's Matt who makes it awesome. Sure he's had some great band members in the past, but we still get to hear most of the songs live from all the albums. And as long as there's someone to fill in the other instruments, it usually sounds pretty much the same as it would if he re-united with the original band.
  6. Advertising on Police Cars. But Running for Home and Strange Days are right there too. My wife's favorite (who's not on this site) is Sort of a Protest Song.
  7. Other than some of the stuff in the encore and the new stuff, it seems like the same as the last tour. So my ideal setlist is: Anything new Champions (always love that song live) Then for an BIG encore Rabbits !!!! Prime Time Deliverance Advertising On Police Cars Suburbia Bright End Of Nowhere Sort Of A Protest Song
  8. I wish there was a "like" button, cause I'd click it. And seriously, I know the people on here would most likely appreciate the concert more, but who really can't fine 20 friends that at least enjoy MG's music. Who wouldn't want to go to a free private concert if they were invited by a friend. And I wouldn't care where this took place. It could be a concert hall that holds 10,000 people, my house, or at the end of my dock at my cottage. Anywhere this happens it is still a huge privledge and pretty friggin amazing.
  9. Where do you guys live (or do I even need to ask) that you've heard In a Place of Lesser Men on the radio? I'm close to Toronto and 102.1 hasn't played it yet.
  10. Nice. A few years back he played 21st Century Living and had words up on the screen regarding G. Bush and what was happening re. war at that time, and those words were said instead of the regular verses. I don't remember exactly what it said, and I've seen him do different lyrics on other occasions, I just remember they were extremely to the point and very truthful eye opening lyrics like these. I remember getting chills from them. If anyone has them I'd love to hear or see them again.
  11. I gotta be honest and say that with everyone (Matt included) saying this album is so different from anything he's ever done, it doesn't sound that unlike the rest of his music to me. Based on the 2 songs we have access to listen to right now (cause that's all I've heard) it sounds typical of his music - especially considering the way his sound has progressed over his last couple albums. Listening to Hospital Music then Vancouver, this seems to be following that some path to me. I still have yet to hear the rest of the album, and I have to throw in that it is not a dissapointment that it isn't overly different thus far as I'm a huge fan of almost everything that he's done in the past.
  12. Thanks for the reply. Sounds pretty sweet - I'm pumped. With the presence of a piano, will the setlist, aside from the new album, include songs from previous albums that have piano in them? Or is it to important to include the essential radio hits that draws the majority thus leaving no room for others? - Or should I just shut up and wait and see what is included like everyone else.... and be content with whatever is played. The last thing I want to do is get into a setlist discussion like we've had on here in the past. Just a general question.
  13. Based on the added instruments on this album and some of the comments you've (Matt's) made, are we to expect a larger number of people on stage to back the live shows? If so, is that going to influence/change the chosen venues? Not that I'm expecting a reply, but I just want to say that it's distinctively courtious and considerate for someone of your stature to give this much of your time to us on here.
  14. I think that's the longest post Matt's ever done on here. It's pretty cool that he (you) take the time to reply and give info to us on a fan site like this. The new song is amazing. This is the style of MG music I like best. Loving the piano. I think some of the best MG songs from the past are songs with piano. Can't wait for the album.
  15. Really? I have no idea how it works, but that would really suck considering that's what people expect to hear night after night while on tour.
  16. I've always thought that the songs Matt chooses as radio songs are most often some of the worst on the album. I enjoy this song, so if he is following the same pattern this album should be pretty sweet.
  17. It's my first time hearing anything off the album. Just like what was already said, we all have high expectations of MG because of how incredible previous albums have been so that's why we're more critical. Not to sound like a kiss-ass on here, but Matt is my favorite musician and I view his music/talents very highly. So when something he does is - at first listen - only slightly better than almost everything else on the radio these days, we judge it harshly. I still really liked the song and can't wait to hear more of the album. I'm pretty sure most (if not all) of us will be getting the album and coming to see you live. If everything else you've done has been great and the very least of that still very good, this album will be no exception. Who cares if it's "different" like everyone keeps saying, there is fairly strong differences between every MG album and they're all timeless and amazing.
  18. Matt has never put out a bad album. We all have our favorites (mine being AOB) and possibly the odd song that isn't on the top of our list, but I really like every album he's ever put out. That being said (and I haven't heard any demos yet so this isn't judging the album at all), even if this is his worst album ever, it's still gonna be amazing. That's why I'm going to go buy his CD the day it comes out. Nothing MG does sucks.
  19. There's lots of people who write. Whether it be on the internet or in a book, most of this is sold (for money) to those who want to read it and have it's content. We who are writing on here are all fans of Matt. Most of us have all or most of his albums, have been to his concerts repeatedly, and have invested a ton of our free time listening to him, watching him, reading about him, and here talking about him. We obviously all like him and what he does. We who go to and read his blog obviously value his opinions and enjoy hearing what he has to say. I agree with what "THE MAN" said - that he is a more trustworthy news source than CNN (or any other news source). He is well educated on what is actually going on in the world, and cuts through the crap and gets to the heart of what is really going on. If you wanted to get this info on your own, you could educate yourself on history as he has done, then do as much daily reading and research as he does, then take hours of almost every day to write it down in an intelligent and explanatory.....and entertaining way. But I'm sure if you actually did all that you'd expect to be paid for such efforts and content. It's just the way the world works. We all have jobs, and writing is a job for many people in this world. What Matt has done for free for years is not normal. He's given of his free time to share information and opinions and to give his fans (who often want to hear anything he has to say) extremely educated and right to the bone type news. Not to mention the discussing of personal matters for his fans. Why anyone on here would bitch about spending $25 for it doesn't make any sence at all. How much do you think you've spent over his career on his material or performances? I know I've spent quite a bit. I wouldn't think for a second that he owes me a free piece of his perspective on a daily basis. Congrats on the pregnancy and wedding Matt. You're not going to have time for much of anything soon. PS "posting fantastic short films made for me by world renowned animators and have a permanent facility at which I write and record where I could also tape live sessions and broadcast them" This would be amazing.
  20. I like the encore too. And I like all the songs in the setlist. Maybe I should not judge just by seeing one setlist, but I don't think I'll pay to go see him on this tour when it is the same as the last one I just saw a few months ago. It would be nice to hear some new stuff, or ANYTHING from the huge amount of music he has that has not been played in the last two tours. I love his music and really enjoy seeing him live, it's just starting to get old. Really just 3 or 4 songs thrown in the mix of his more rare stuff would make a huge difference for a lot of his fans. Look how excited we all got when he added "Future is X-rated" in the last tour - and that was only one song!
  21. Change of Season Avalanche The Rat Who Would Be King We're So Heavy Truffle Pigs
  22. 4 Suburbia Advertising on Police Cars Near Fantastica - tough call! 4.5 Life Beyond the Minimum Safe Distance All Together Fated - another tough one Volcanoes
  23. Since we're throwing opinions out there, mine is that I prefer full band tours with a few acoustic tracks thrown in. I like hearing most songs with the full music the way they were written, but on the other hand Matt has some amazing talent that is more so displayed when he comes out with just himself and a guitar.
  24. Without me putting in any effort whatsoever into finding this answer myself, does anyone on here know if Matt is doing another Canadian tour this year? Summer maybe?
  25. I thought they sounded almost identical from album to live. I've got a four year old son who is into stuff like pink, lady ga-ga, black eyed peas etc. because of the beats and the energy that is in the music, and he LOVES Mother Mother (which I am happy about). Even my 9 month old baby is dancing to them. So the energy is good in my opinion. Maybe because I saw them live first the live image (with thier great performance and their energy) is in my head as I listen to the album.
