Yeah, but people need to realize that not everyone likes what everyone else likes. I have no problem with people liking The Mars Volta, I have a problem with those people telling me that if I don't like them I have no taste in music and am a horrible person.

I'm actually friends with The Mars Volta. We went to high school together. Good times. And don't get me started on Tool fans. I've had to endure them for far too long.

I would agree with that to an extent, but the reason why the Mars Volta rattles my goat more is the legions of fans proclaiming them to be the next Jesus or something.

There's a difference between pretentious and open-minded. Look at the Mars Volta songs titles. Those are prententious, you can't dispute that. The difference between Mars Volta and Radiohead are that Radiohead can write songs that are under five minutes long, and they catchy pop tunes, as well as epics like Paranoid Android. Look at 2+2=5, there's practically four parts to that song and it still clocks in at under three and a half minutes.

They've delivered two of the decade's best records, so I have high hopes for this one. Any other fans?

Sorry, no flaming, just wanted to know why thisis your opinion. I love discussing music. They seem really overtly Prog for the sake of being Prog. And prententious as well. They don't need five minute guitar solos, but they put them in anyway. And they have some of the worst fans I've ever seen. That and the fact that I'm not a fan of overtly serious, prog-ish rock in the first place.

Well, it's an official Scene release, so it kinda counts. But yeah, it's not really a leak.

And now the second CD has leaked, which is will be nice while I camp out next to my mailbox.

I can't really say he's my favourite anymore. I first got into him back in Grade 8 with Underdogs, and listening to a lot of the same bands mentioned in this thread, but over the years my tastes have changed and although Matt is still up there in the top 10 and dominated my listening for most of high school, I can't seem to get into him as much as I used to. My favourite bands right now are more of the indie persausion like Belle & Sebastian, Spoon, Pavement, Elliot Smith, Modest Mouse, Ted Leo etc.

Yeah, but the allure of a signed copy was too good to pass up.
