You WISH you were the bool. I am the ONE TRUE BOOL. At best, you are merely a under-bool, a semi-bool, or possibly even as high as a pseudo-bool. BUT I AM THE BOOL!!! Everyone else is just a bool.

It's true. I am the bool. You are all simple peasant bools.

Genres
Ravenous Yam replied to radio_bomb's topic in Music In General: David Bowie Appreciation Station
Genres are useful as a way to explain/compare different types of music. 'Good Music' is not specific enough if you were to be trying to find music that is recognizably similar to other music. Its just when people limit themselves to genres, or exclude genres on principle, that it is bad. When genres are used to classify or compare music, it is useful. Just as you wouldnt call every vehicle (pickup truck, bus, front-end loader, moped) a car. It doesnt say enough. -

GREATEST ROCK BAND TODAY
Ravenous Yam replied to marik's topic in Music In General: David Bowie Appreciation Station
I dont really like any of those bands... maybe radiohead... so i would nominate either: Porcupine Tree or Umphrey's McGee Personally i would go with Umphrey's McGee... theyre a lot more 'rock' than porcupine tree. Umphrey's McGee MP3's available here at the Live Music Archive -
EP definition EP= extended play; too long for a single but not long enough to be an LP. Comes from the days of vinyl records: EP's were 7" records, either 45rpm or 33rpm. LP= long playing; regular In records: LP's were 12", 33 rpm. Singles: 7", 45rpm

-Weezer videos -MG/MGB videos One that hasnt been mentioned yet (i dont think) The shins - So says i Im not even a big shins fan, but how can you argue with this strange evolution of penguin society? ...soviet penguins... capitalist penguins... it's strange. The Shins - So Says I I can't make this link work directly out of IE, but it works if you put the link into the 'open URL' thing in Quicktime. -
Vinyl is awesome. Owns CD's in every way except portabilty and price. Also, i remember an interview or something with Matt about Loser Anthems, and how he intentionally put a layer of vinyl-like hiss under the whole thing and tried to give it a vinyl-esque frequency response to make it sound better.

Says you. But back on track, Loser Anthems is ridiculously good, especially for 7 tracks. Best $6.99 i ever spent.
-
It was tough... the whole album is so good and is even better from beginning to end in its entirety... but i went with Omissions of the Omen.
-
Yeah same, $6.99. I was just walking by, i saw it and decided to pick it up.

Damn i forgot. Apologies. Uhhh... Iron Maiden. -
Maybe at the Calgary show in October, when he got mad at some guys for fighting and being all rowdy. I cant remember what he said, but i remember it was entertaining. ...I fail. Unless you meant songs played live... in which case 'The Rat Who Would be King' and 'Can't Get Shot in the Back' (also at the Calgary show) were both spectacular.

Porcupine Tree 10/10 Absolutely Brilliant in every respect. Can do catchy pop-influenced tunes, 10-20 minute epics, ambient slow songs, 40 minute improvisations, and everything inbetween without losing focus or interest or their own unique sound. Very full, well produced records. Certainly a high point of contemporary music. Intelligent, diverse, and totally different from everything else nowadays.
