Help - Tuning A Guitar
Ravenous Yam replied to Moonlight_Graham's topic in Music In General: David Bowie Appreciation Station
Yes. it is tuning all the strings down one semitone (one frets' worth). 1 tone (one step)= 2 frets 1 semitone (1/2 step)= 1 fret It's done mostly to accomodate specific voice ranges. You don't really need to do it unless youre going to be playing along with the original recording, or unless you really feel like it. There's no relative difference between all the strings, because they're all detuned the same amount. Also, in your first post, tuning the high e-string to a b, you'll likely have to tune it down to be the same pitch as the b-string. If you tune it up to b, it'll almost definitely snap. Just match it to the b-string. -

Greatest Song Ever
Ravenous Yam replied to sodamntired's topic in Music In General: David Bowie Appreciation Station
I can't say one song is the greatest, but my favourite (most of the time) is Explosions In The Sky's 'Your Hand In Mine'. I can listen to that song back-to-back almost forever. -
Israel, Lebanon, Etc Crisis
Ravenous Yam replied to HoboFactory's topic in Politics and Debate: WRONG!
Israel 'accidentally' attacked a UN post (LINK) and 2 Red Cross ambulances (LINK). The UN post has been there since 1972, everyone knew where it was. First, they shelled the area for six hours while the UN people called them 10 times to tell them to stop because they were endangering UN lives. Then they were hit with a precision-guided missile. What the fuck is up with that? Israel is saying it was an accident, but c'mon... a precision-guided missile sends a clear message whether you want it to or not. And then the very next day, two clearly marked Red Cross ambulances are attacked by an Israeli gunship for... some reason. Could the fact that they know they have automatic immunity by way of the USA be a factor here? Maybe they really were just accidents...? -
I'm debating whether or not to banish this thread to the abyss. It started off poorly, and got much worse when it turned into a smarmy-assholish-insultjousting contest.

Israel, Lebanon, Etc Crisis
Ravenous Yam replied to HoboFactory's topic in Politics and Debate: WRONG!
It seems to me that Israel was just waiting for a reason to go to war; their response seems way overblown relative to the actual offense. Designate, would you say that Israel is prepared and willing to go to war with pretty much the whole Middle East? Are they seeking peaceful solutions? Or are they trying to keep it local to Southern Lebanon only, without it spilling over into neighbouring countries and areas? Do you personally feel that this conflict is worth the two captured soldiers that seems to have been the starting point of this whole thing? You don't have to answer if you don't want, but you definitely know more about this than any of us. The only information we get over here is the news, and they don't exactly have the greatest reputation when it comes to details and motives. I hope this is resolved with the least possible casualties. -
Boooo! If you're gonna get beer, at least don't get something from the big breweries (Molson, coors, bud, kokanee etc.). Get something microbrewed, they are far better. A lot of imports are pretty good too, but don't ever drink Corona.

Sambuca is foul, so is Goldschlager. In fact, most all liqueurs suck. Go for gin, rye, or a quality vodka like Stoli.

Israel, Lebanon, Etc Crisis
Ravenous Yam replied to HoboFactory's topic in Politics and Debate: WRONG!
Perhaps they won't, but seeing as Iran was already on the U.S.'s shit list and there was some major tension there, I wouldn't exclude it completely. It also doesn't really help that Iran is more or less in charge of most of the Muslim world. Not to mention that the U.S. always supports Israel no matter what. They already vetoed a UN resolution to make Israel back off from this conflict, and in so doing basically gave Israel free reign to do whatever they want. Also, North Korea adds another factor to the equation that is most certainly unfavourable. It seems like everything is lining up in the direction of catastrophe, but maybe I'm just being pessimistic. -
Israel, Lebanon, Etc Crisis
Ravenous Yam replied to HoboFactory's topic in Politics and Debate: WRONG!
If it stays just between Israel and Lebanon, it would probably stay pretty local, and probably settle relatively soon. However, I predict: 1. Israel attacks Syria 2. Syria, Jordan, and Iran attack Israel (Iran already said they would retaliate if Syria is attacked) 3. U.S. gets involved 4. ? No matter what happens, this is history in the making. And I thought that the US invaded Iraq to bring stability to the Middle East? -
