Personally, I read Slaughterhouse-Five to begin with, as it was the one I had heard the most of. Fascinating book and a good introduction to Vonnegut, and the character referenced above. After that I read Cat's Cradle, which I enjoyed, but not so much. Good book though. Then I read Breakfast of Champions, which I loved, but not so much as Slaughterhouse. All three are well worth your time though.

Did anyone see the "Breakfast of Champions" movie?

I read Slaughterhouse-Five just a few weeks ago, as my first Vonnegut book, and it was absolutely incredible. I've yet to read anything else from him.

'Slaughterhouse-Five' is an excellent read. The only other Vonnegut book I've read is 'Jail Bird', which is great too.

It's been a very long time since I read Breakfast of Champions, but I remember that the main part of the story is about a writer, who's a bit of a mess, who has to travel to another city to get some sort of writing award.

Meanwhile it intercuts with another story about a used car salesman who's losing it.

That's all I can remember, but it was a great, very funny book. Check it out.

In Slaughter-House five, it follows a character who at different points in his life is an optometrist, a POW and an exhibit in an alien zoo. He doesn't stay in one time, he moves through his life randomly.

i've read welcome to the monkey house, and a bit of galapegos.

I love Palm Sunday. It's quite funny.

Welcome to the Monkey House is a great read. It's a collection of short stories and they're just great.

Jailbird was also interesting. It wasn't as crazy as some of his others, but it was a very well constructed story. Very cool.

I'd probably recommend Slaughterhouse-Five or Breakfast of Champions as your first read.

One you shouldn't even bother with is Hocus Pocus.

Just make sure you get around to "Breakfast Of Champions" and "Cat's Cradle" like a lot of folks have said.

The only book ive read is Timequake, and i found it to be quite enjoyable.

Time to bing this topic back...

I just finished Slaughterhouse-Five and I loved it. It was a bit of a twisted fandango, but enjoyable nonetheless.
