new project from mr. damon albarn, featurring a great line-up of musicians... unlike the gorillaz where it's more a revolving door of collaborators and damon, the good the bad and the queen seem to be a real bonafide band-- and it shows.

 

also in the band is paul simonon, former bassist of the clash; simon tong, who is from the verve, and was also the touring guitarist for think tank-era blur; and africa 70 drummer tony allen... who has been name dropped in a blur song, actually. during "music is my radar", damon sings: "tony allen dancing"...

 

anyway. you can goto their website for tonnes of info on the project, which has a release planned for january 2007.

I'm pretty excited because Damon can do no wrong, so far. After one listen I didn't fall in love with the songs or anything, but I liked them. It's going to be hard for me to get used to Damon's voice with something that isn't Blur-ey, Gorillaz-esque, or even Mali Music-ish.

All the other members are people who innitially impress me, then I realize I don't know them that well. I'm having my second listen now, and I'm more excited. Damon! He has yet to make me want to puke. I even downloaded Democrazy the other day, and even though it was garbage quality it was just his song composure and singing style that makes it all so good. I can't wait to hear the other songs from this new band.

so i got it and my first impression has been quite positive. when i've got time, i'll write a better revue. to me, its like think tank era blur, with less dance and more groove.

To be honest, I'm no Blur or Gorillaz fan, but I quite enjoyed this album.

Also, I enjoyed this album, it's basically got a messed up indie-sound, and it works.

I love, love, love Paul from the Clash, but this record does nothing for me. An absolute bore from beginning to end.

 

I'll still see them at Coachella, though. Because I'm a hack!
