i heard him for the first time on the daily show last night. at the beginning of the song i really didn't like him much, but by the end i was kinda diggin' it. i may have to look into this old hound dog.

edit: now i have to...he's got a song called 'on the road' with lyrics credited to jack kerouac.

I just saw him as a guest on the John Stewart show. He's kind of weird, but I've always been a fan of the music.

I've heard a couple of songs of his... the voice is a bit hard to take seriously at times.

king among men.

though his voice(s) may not be to everyone's taste... it's a bit of an acquired taste. but if you give a full album a chance (like say, Rain Dogs or the new Orphans set) you may find religion. no joke.

It's "I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy."

Usually that is, not saying he might have said it different elsewhere.

I don't think I've ever listened to Tom Waits, though my dad probably did so like many other artists, the songs might sound familiar.

"Tango 'Til They're Sore" off of Rain Dogs (well, all of Rain Dogs, really) is my required pre-drinking listening for New Years eve. If nothing more than for the line "Let me fall out of the window with confetti in my hair."

happily got swordfishtrombones, frank's wild years, and big time for xmas. they've been playing 'big time' on bravo quite a bit lately (for those non-canadians, that's an arts & culture type tv station)... but apparently the vhs is out of print and they have yet to release it on dvd. a damn shame, i tells you.
