I miss them. Nostalgia from elementary school.

unbelievable how someone can be so consistent in making their product so incredibly shitty yet no one cares enough to stop buying them.

I rarely ever saw one that was in good condition, or one that would actually sharpen your pencil.

I actually have one right next to me. it's fastened to the computer desk

That's so cool. I used to like to take off the covers and watch them in action, they looked so sexual. I remember doing it in grade 2 and 3, realizing that the teacher wouldn't think I was doing anything wrong.

Posted

all i can remember is forceing the cover back on

I haven't seen one of those in a long time.

I'm left handed and that would be some good fun trying to sharpen my pencil

my dad has two of these in our basement. one works awesome and is way better than any school one ever. i remember my friend melissa had one of her own that would clamp to her desk. it was cool.... for grade six.

we have one that uses suction to stick to the desk

Those suckers suck. I liked them though.

I went to crappy public schools, you had to be Arnold Swarzenegger just to turn the bloody things.

it was a good tool for procrastinating. when i was little, i didn't have ADHD or anything, but i always liked taking breaks from doing my work. to keep things interesting, i'd either go on long voyages to the washroom or i'd walk to the front of the class to sharpen my pencil endlessly. or at least until it was sharp enough that it would break again once it hit the page.

hahaha same here, i know what you're talking about. They always had this point where they'd momentarily stick, and you had to push them REALLY hard just to get it going again and then by the time you thought your pencil was sharp, it would fuck up the whole lead! WEll that' my experiance with them at least.

We must be soul mates, you and I.

I was talking about these in calss today, and someone reminded me of how loud they were, and how awkward it was when you actually had to use them during a test.

Posted

kids used to empty them all the time because the garbage cans were always right by the door, and the front chalkboard was where the sharpener was, so it was a long walk and people would watch you....those kids needed to be the center of attention

Posted

Ever drop it in the garbage? That was always a good time waster.

this one punk i went to school with for years used to put a candle in there and sharpen it and the wax would fuck up everyone's pencils.

this is the same kid who used to soak spitballs in ink then shoot them at people.

That is devilish. I remember when people did that with crayons. Or when people would use pencil crayons in there and it would get the colours all mixed up, so you'd go to use your pencil and it would be a little green. Then you get expelled.

This child you speak of sounds like the type that would torture animals.

Posted

Ah, yes, teachers chewing kids out for not handwriting and using ink colours not officially sanctioned by school board policy.

My Gram got us one of those that used suction to stick to our desk for Christmas a couple of years ago. Well, like 15 years ago. I have it right by me!

I spent a hlaf hour of a class today sharpening a mechanical pencil in an electric sharpener. it made it very smooth
