Love 'em or hate 'em?

I'm usually in favour of the originals, but if a cover is done well then it's got to get some credit. My favourite covers would be RHCP doing Elton John's 'Tiny Dancer' and Holly McNarland doing Phil Collins' 'In The Air Tonight'.

Yep.

I didnt know MGB did a cover ;)

hmmm... must find this "enjoy the silence"

I think any cover gives a neat effect.

Smooth Criminal was done well, cant think of others right now ....

Some are good, some are terrible. It's impossible for me to be for or against.

Covers are only good if they bring something different to the table, such as turning a softer of more poppy sing into a rock song.

I can't really think of my favorite right now, but I agree with Kumquat about Holly Mcnarland doing 'In the Air Tonight'.

Posted

I only listed ones that I enjoy. If you don't like them... ;)

i liked the gob cover of paint it black and johnny cash's cover of hurt

and the dope cover of "you spin me right round" was so much better than the original, but i thought orgy blue monday was an original? (if not who did the original, cause i like blue monday)

Posted

i liked hurt beter when nin did it. and so many people thought it was cash's, which cheesed me off.

Posted

i think both are pretty cool...the nin one is well creppy, and very fun to listen to...while johnny sang it when he knew he was dieing...and he brought a certain wistful acceptance of things and regret to the song which i like

Posted

it sort of scared me.. i thoyght it was creepy... and then the video varified that feeling in me.

Posted

never seen the video...is it worth obtaining legitamatly from the internet?

limpbizkit- Behind Blue Eyes

That song is a perfect example of why cover songs usually suck ass!! Much like me singing it in kareoke, Limpbizkit butcher it! I have heard a couple good covers in my life though.

Foo Fighters "Baker Street"

Jimi Hendrix "All Along the Watchtower"

Pearl Jam "Rockin in the Free World" (only live, its not on an album)

MGB "Enjoy the Silence"

Smashing Pumpkins "Landslide"

There might be one or 2 more, but that's good enough.
