OK, so something is wrong with the sound on my computer. iTunes and stuff plays fine, as well as videos on thatvideosite.com. But for soem reason the sound on things like java games and youtube doesn't work. I checked my drivers and it says they're fine, so does anyone have any idea wtf is wrong?

make sure your audio drivers, java, flash, and IE are the latest version. If that doesn't work, reinstall windows ;)

Edit: I can play Flash videos too, but there's no sound, and I'm POSITIVE I have the latest version of flash.

I'd bank on it being a java problem... Java is the root of all evil.

what's the difference?

One is satan, the other is hell. You figure out which is which.

clearly you have never implement any large scale projects in Java. Though I will admit that the Win32 API is awful...

Java is a pain in the ass. It seems to never work properly.

Even the annoying windows start up noise when you turn on your computer doesn't work.

I remember when I first got this and I couldn't even play music or anything, but then I re-installed the drivers and music worked fine, so it isn't them. I just have no idea. Ah well, I guess there could be worse things wrong with a computer. Thanks for the help guys.

You get two gold stars. One for your avatar, and one for your comments about Mac.

p.s. Gold stars don't exist, sorry.

yeah, it is easy to upgrade with a mac, you just through the peice of shit out once it gets old and get a new mac.

It funny how people say that... little do they realize...

Mac is less of a computer and more of a transcendence...

For this Mac stuff:

Try and re-install your Java, sometimes just reinstalling something fixes it.

could it maybe just be the plugin's in the browser being screwed? that could be the only thing I could think of at this time

To fix my problem, I just uninstalled and re-installed all of my basic drivers and stuff, and it worked fine. Also try checking Control Panel->Sounds and Audio Devices.

don't.

you need the right codecs.

you need lame mp3, ac3, divx, xvid.

the first two are sound codecs, the last are video.
