Crash was a good movie, I'll give it that. Would I say it's a great movie? No, no I wouldn't. Would I say it's the best picture of 2005? No, no I wouldn't.

Thoughts?

I wouldn't consider it a Canadian film just because the director/writer is Canadian. It was released by Lions Gate and was filmed entirely in California. Anyway, I hated it. Living in California, I found it far too coincidental that that many racist people would happen to have their lives intertwine. I found it far too preachy for its on good. To repeat, I hated it.

Sure, why not. It was decent... all the other movies it was up against were mediocre or sucked (even though i haven't seen any of them)... BUT REALLY, Batman Begins was fuckin SWEEEEEEEEET. wish that won

I'd say sure why not, I thought it was pretty good, especially considering that there's probably not that clear of a definition of what makes one movie better than another anyways.

You do know Lions Gate Films is based in North Vancouver, BC, Canada right? Lions Gate is a Canadian company. As a side note, Aliance Atlantis is also based in Toronto, Ontario, as well, even though it had nothing to do with Crash, like Lions Gate, it's a Canadian company that releases a lot of films in the States that seem to do fairly well.

I really liked crash. And next to what it was next to, I'd say it definitely should have won.

But I don't really care either. ;)

absolutely deserved to win best picture

its one of the rare movies where i thought halfway through

"this is a great film"

its very uncommon that I would think this WHILE i was watching a movie...its usually happens afterwards in retrospect, like Citizen Kane, for example.

And I never got that from Brokeback Mountain. There was not a single scene in that movie that had me saying, "wow, that's an original shot" or "i feel for these characters."

Crash had me feeling that close to all the way through.

so in conclusion, Crash absolutely deserved to win Best Picture.

I voted absolutely and that is certainly the case. This has to be one of the strongest and most emotional films I have ever seen. I have seen the other four films as well and they were all very well done, especially Capote, Brokeback Mountain and Munich. None of them however made me react as much as Crash did.

I've only seen Crash and Munich out of the nominees. I thought Crash was obviously a bit far-fetched, but overall it was an enjoyable movie.
