I'm not sure if anyone else has heard of this website... it's

www.Pandora.com

and what you do is enter a song or artist that you like, and it will identify the elements in that song or that the artist uses and will then stream songs that contain the same elements. You can guide it by saying whether you like that song (play more like this!) or do not like that song (wtf, never play this crap again). As of right now, they have around 350,000 songs.

Great feature: creating an account to save your channels so you can log in on another computer.

It started out pretty good, but then got annoying. Doesn't carry some tunes because the label or artist won't allow it. Tends to play crap that has nothing to do with your choice. On the flip side, I've listened to a few bands I never heard of before.

Personally, that's a better reason for using it than just looking for something you already know about.

Agreed. Can't listen to mainstream radio anymore, besides CBC.

If I hear "Dirty Vegas" just one more time, I will drive pencils into my eardrums.

I like it, but I'm starting to hate it. For every good song I've heard, there have been at least five or six crappy late 90's songs. Why the hell would I want to listen to Eve 6 and Third Eye Blind on a Modest Mouse station?

It's proven to be misleading. I'd hear one song from a given artist I've never heard of, and it sounds quite alright. So I get more stuff from that artist and most of it totally blows.

I suggest Last.fm, it gives pretty good recommendations after you use it for a while and it gets your detailed musical taste.

I just wanted to say thanks a bunch for posting that thing. I absolutely adore it.

Perhaps it's just me, but for some reason, I've found it easier to find new music on Pandora, that suits my tastes, if it's generally lyricless or instrumental (eg. Trance, New Age, Ambient).

Mind you, just give it, oh, an hour of listening, keep adding music to it, do the like and dislike thing, and I find it to be pretty efficient and worthwhile.

Time-waster indeed! ;)
