My greatest influences would have to be:

Mindless Self Indulgence

Leftover Crack

Slipknot

As I Lay Dying

Bright Eyes

Matthew Good

Moby

OutKast

Brand New

Taking Back Sunday

Xiu Xiu

Dimmu Borgir

Hmm, I haven't been listening to that much recently, so lately I haven't had that many influences, so I'm just writing with no steam to back me up. But in the past, I would say that Matthew Good Band, The Arcade Fire, and Death Cab for Cutie have affected my song writing quite a bit. Funny how, in the past, when I would listen to a certain artist for a while, I would write something that would fit into that style of music. But now its just like, I write what I write, and that's that, and it doesn't have to be a certain style anymore. (If that made sense?)

Tool

Pink Floyd

King Crimson

Led Zeppelin

GY!BE

Red Sparows/explosions in the sky

merzbow

radiohead/matt good

I try to push the boundaries a bit with my music, like switching time signatures and using different song structures. I don't know if I succeed though.

Musically > Matt Good, Bob Dylan, Wilco, The Beatles, U2, Damien Rice, Jeff Buckley, Radiohead, Dallas Green, Coldplay, and in a way everything I have ever heard (gives me an idea of what not to play sometimes)

Lyrically > Matthew Good, John K, various writers and such

My friend Matt and I have started to wright music together.

Our most fully formed song so far:

I suppose it's kind of king of King Crimson/Led Zeppelin/Mahavishnu Orchestra. It incolves alot of crazy improvization on a C Phrygian Natural 3rd scale, interspersed with crunching guitar/keyboard harmonization and sinister unison riffs.

In general my playing is influenced by

King Crimson

The Mars Volta

Miles Davis

Chick Corea

Led Zeppelin

Herbie Hancock

Thelonius Monk

The Mahavishnu Orchestra

Cream

I haven't gotten around to writing lyrics yet, but I probly will soon.

PS: Shade, what instrument do you play?

I play guitar. I took drum lessons for a year but then I had to go to school. I do have a set which I like to play. I started piano recently as well. My heart lies with the guitar though.

Your music sounds cool. Anything recordings?

No real recordings as of yet. The other day we were fooling around with percussion, but that doesn;t realy count.

My friend lent me his mini keyboard, me being anchord to the big digital piano upstairs, so that I could practice elsewhere. The sound is awful though.

Being a drummer, I grew up listening to great drummers

Neal Peart

Carl Palmer

Chester Thompson

Phil Collins

Bill Bruford

As for bands that helped my musical tastes they were:

Rush

Genesis (early)

Yes (early)

Neil Young

Tom Petty

Pearl Jam

Soundgarden
