i think slayer have a shot at being titled "heaviest band ever".... however, kyuss were certainly heavy in their own right, but they werent abrasive, so you might not consider them. fuck, slow and moody bands like swans could be considerred heavy too. swans had been known to make people's ears bleed at concerts, and they never screamed a word.

what i am saying is that there are many definitions of heavy.

Thats fair enough, I could understand they wouldn't be to everyones taste but, as they say, to each his/her own........

Heavy music is only good if the words are relatively coherent. If they scream and screech like bears caught in a meat grinder, it's just painful on the ears.

Glassjaw has some great sounding heavy music. The key word here being "music", thier stuff is really good but by no means the heaviest band ever.

holy shit i just called a band 'noise'.

i'm turning into my mother.

opeth and isis can be both heavy as hell and melodic at times

Converge are pretty funky, especially coming out of North Americans... I have that album, and i love "Last Light" so much.

Not necassarily, but i can't name anything heavier than Anaal Nathrakh...

Satty, what are Isis like>

Someone said something about Cannibal Corpse. I went through a CC phase a while ago... they're not by any means all that heavy. I hope that they are just a few guys with a twisted sense of humour. If not, then i feel sorry for them.

ill answer for saturnine. isis are kick ass. i only have panopticon, but it's sweet. very slow, heavy, droning kind of music, but like he said, pretty melodic.

Posted (edited)

i'll send you some isis. panopticon is amazing. i also have celestial and oceanic. oceanic is much like panopticon.

How will you convey said music?

Grindcore like "Napalm Death", "Pig Destroyer" and the likes is pretty heavy.

In my opinion, the heaviest stuff is the "Noise" genre,

stuff like Masonna, Merzbow, Wolf Eyes, and the Locusts.

Pig Destroyer have the coolest lyrics.

"The bullet hole looks so right in your head like it'd been missing all along"

Oh, those Restraining Order Blues!
