EDIT: What are YOUR interpretations of Tripoli? I'd like to hear some different views on what it means.

Once upon a time there was this thing called 'one's own interpretation.'

The End.

What on earth do you mean "explain it to you"... it's art - we've all to find out own meaning in it...

edit: as always, I'm one step behind Dan the penguin...

It's an homage to the Pixies, happy?

Does music and song need to have a reason behind it?

Look at Yellow Ledbetter and I Got ID by Pearl Jam, clearly those have some meaning, but what?

Music is art, and you take art personal, and draw your own conclusions about it

I changed the question - would like to hear some interpretations!

If i were ever to be a writer of any sort, i wouldn't give a shit what people thought my work meant. IMO You should only write for one person.

With that in mind, i don't have an interpretation of the song besides my own idea as to what Matt meant when he wrote it (which i think is similar to your original question.) And i'm not going to swap stories about what someone else was feeling/thinking.

It's a pretty simple question, at least after the edit. What does it mean to you?

I think it's about losing someone, and then going crazy over it.

But I don't know why it's called Tripoli? Being a geography major, I know that as the capital of Libya...

I think if anything its more of a talk talk reference:

Hey love, look into your glovebox heart.

What is there for me inside? This love is tired.

I've changed the locks. Have I misplaced you?

Have we lost our minds?

I'm not going to interpret it but, remember the story in ALTINLTS about National Geographic? Tripoli's mentioned in that.

Tripoli as in the place, though... not Tripoli as in the song...

It's about Matt Good looking for his head. A creepy children's choir is also looking for their heads.

Seeing as it was the first song he wrote after throat surgery, I think it's about him dealing with that whole ordeal, no voice and whatnot "best to stay sleeping, in awhile I will awake to be a hasbeen".

At least that's what I got out of it.

obviously it's about nothing at all. matt just picked lyrics out of a hat.

there are countless tripolis all over the world, but we all know it's the capital of libya because we've all read the book.

why the fuck does everyone here have to be so snarky all the time? it's not even mildly amusing. all the guy is asking for is for people to share what they think the song is about.

jesus christ.

It's just saturnine. Just ignore his posts or something and everything will be happier.
