The Island *I know it's new, and it's directed by Michael Bay (which translates to mass cultural appeal aka CRAP), but for some reason it entertained the hell out of me. *shrug* must be the mass appeal.

I think The Island looks a helluva lot better than ANYTHING Michael Bay ever made. Maybe it's the hopes that Scarlett Johansson will show some skin. Maybe it's the lack of Schmuck-er. All i knows is, it looks oooook.

Must admit I don't know why "Lost In Translation" made it onto anyone's list. I thought it was one of the least worth-while movies ever.

Because despite being INCREDIBLY slow, it was the most subtle character sketch i've ever seen in film. The cineamotography was equally amazing. What i liked most about the film was that it recreated in me the same feeling i get with the nighttime: a very numb but frantic and excited feeling. Also what made it great, was its realistic romantic. Even in amazing movies the romance seems so fake and inserted. This is the only romantic plot i can recall offhand, that actually works without being at least somewhat ridiculous. Because of this, the ending turned out to be one of the saddest film endings i've ever seen.

I can understand where it wouldn't make someone's top 10 however. We all have different tastes i'm sure.

Hmm... hard to actually give a best ten so I will list the ten best movies that pop into my head.

I Heart Huckabees

Eernal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind

Pulp Fiction

The Big Kahuna

The Godfather I and II (3 is okay)

Casino

Scarface

American Beauty

Snatch

The Usual Suspects

And can someone explain to me what makes Shawshank Redemption the most beloved movie of all-time? It was well-acted and well-written but to me, I just don't see what puts it at the top. It seemed kinda melodramatic and simple.

1. The Shawshank Redemption

2. I Heart Huckabees

And the rest in no particular order:

Good Will Hunting

Unbreakable

The Sixth Sense

"Crash"

Stand By Me

Girl, Interrupted

re: Shawshank Redemption.

That movie is so awesome, however i recently saw "Escape From Alcatraz" starring Clint Eastwood, which was made long before Shawshank and it is extremely similar. I lost some respect for Shawshank after seeing that film.

ie: Its both about a guy trying to escape from prison. They both secretely dig a hole in their cell wall to escape. They both use a poster to hide the hole from the guards. And they both get rid of the dirt they dig by slowly shuffling it around as they walk outside during "recess" time at the prison.

I couldn't believe the similarities. Shawkshank is still a great movie & awesome characters, but i'd recommend people see 'Escape From Alcatraz' also.
