Garageband

any thoughts on garage band or mixing music at home digitally?

i just got garage band 2 for my mac and i think it's great, except you need lots of memory to use it to its full extent...

I have no input on GarageBand, but i use Cool Edit Pro 2.0 for recording purposes.

After briefly looking at GarageBand on the internet, i really like the notation display thing it has.

i've been using sonar 3 for recording... i don't know how it stacks up against garageband but from what i can tell its great. its got a lot of cool features most recording programs don't have.

 

is garageband only for mac?

i use cool edit pro as well. if i had a mac i'd probably use garageband however

HOw much is it for a decent recording program?

A good program isnt too much. For instance, I bought garageband as part of a mac media package for less than $100. But what costs money is having enough RAM and free space on your computer to run the program. And on top of that there's digital input equipment to record with... $$$

i use ACID pro 4.0 on my PC and it works amazingly well.

my friend made recording with that standard windows sound recorder, and they turned out incredibley.

 

A few of my friends have a band, called Desaturate, and they have some recordings on purevolume made in garageband, that sound of lesser quality than Sam's.

hmmm... i've been thinking about getting a new computer for the sole purpose of recording music... i was wondering if mac would be a better bet than pc. or does it even matter?

depends on what features you're looking for in the program that you will use.....and how much you're willing to spend

 

i recommend a mac if you can afford everything necessary to make effective use of garageband

GB can be really useful for quick, easy recordings. I've recorded some projects for my classes in it and it works well if you really want it to.

Naturally it's not the best program for recording and it's ideal to have and Mbox wit ProTools but using GB doesn't mean it has to sound bad. I would suggest using natural reverbs when recording voice rather then the GB effects. (try recording in a bathroom)
