this is a broadcast, heartless romantic, end of a hollywood bedtime story, there is no such thing as love, autotomy, no return, summer of protest, we can have it, lost in the plot, expect the worst cos she's a tourist, never destroy us, postcard from purgatory...

The only song of their's that I like is that "Who are you, defenders of the universe?"

I've had 'No Cities Left' for a couple of months. My favourite tracks would be the first two.

"The Death of All the Romance"

"We Can Have It"

Brilliant writing...powerful voice.

The voice is kinda annoying, sounds an awful lot like several Soviet-era singers that my parents would listen to.

Lost in the Plot is really nice. Did anyone pick up their live album?

yes, I did. The version of 'Autotomy' on there is great!

I tried listening to these guys but I got so bored. I don't really see the appeal.

I really enjoyed the Dears when I saw them open for Matt in 2003 at the Joint in Edmonton. Equally impressive was seeing them unload their own equipment from the van they travelled to the show in. Now THAT'S rock and roll.

Cheers,

Grizz

What are you talking about?

He sounds like a cross between Morrissey(The Smiths) and Damon Albarn (Blur).

Hence lies the appeal.

I've purchased every last thing they've ever released [that I know of] -

Nor the Dahlias

End of a Hollywood Bedtime Story

Orchestral Pop Noir Romantique [EP]

No Cities Left

Protest [EP]

Thank You Good Night Sold Out [live]

You've probably not heard the artists I'm referring to. Few people have. The resemblance in the vocal style however to The Dears is uncanny.

You yet miss the point.

Do you know what Morrissey sounds like?

The guy's like a black Morrissey.

I love The Dears.

I will definitely check them out live sometime in the near future.

It's pretty worth it. I've seen them twice, and the shows were both of consistent quality...and the lead singer's voice is so great live.
