whatever his reasoning, i thought his cover was cool except for that. crown of shit has different connotations than crown of thorns. that's probably what he was after when he changed it, if it wasn't the swearing thing, but i liked the original connotations more. anyway, yada yada...opinions...yada yada...assholes...etc.

I think the emotion that Cash put into the song made it incredible, nevermind the lyric change. I still love the original more. Sometimes another artist's take on a song, can be really good. I think this is a great example of that.

I don't know sometimes the covers can be better than the original, not in this case, but look at Tesla's version of "Signs"(Way better than the original)...Placebo's cover of Depeche Mode's "I Feel You" is pretty damned good...not better than the original, but definitely sexier.

i'm not saying it never happens, i'm saying it's rare, especially with a song like hurt. it's not one of my favourite nin songs by any means, but it still seems like something untouchable.

Stevie Ray Vaughan and Sting, both turned in excellent covers of Little Wing. Even I agree, that SRV's cover is superior to the original...God, 17 years gone, and I still miss the hell out of him.
