Matthew's Legacy

Can he reach the level of creative success enjoyed by such icons as Niel Young, Joni Mitchell, Lenord Coen, Bob Dillon, and Eric Clapton, or is he destined to have a relativly small cult following forever?

I'm pretty sure Matt has reached the level of creative success of those artists you mentioned. But that depends on what defines "success" for an individual artist. In Matt's case, I think he's happy with a small but loyal fanbase that actually understands his music, rather than millions of fans who don't get it at all.

I understand that Matt may already be happy with his career, that wasn't my question. To clarify, How will Matthew Good's volume of material be compared to the success of the above mentioned artist's when he is finished? Will he reach that "iconic" status, or will his lack of international appeal relegate him to "national treasure" or "best kept secret"? (sorry for all the "labels").

I think Matt is and always will be a Canadian icon and likely wont become a international icon reaching an iconic status like Neil Young etc. Most people who aren't avid fans of Matt really recall him for most of his MGB work in the 90s so MGB is a national 90s icon and dare I say a now a classic rock icon.

Matt solo is really just Canadian plus a bit of the US from people who have stuck around from the 90s or discovered him throughout the years.

I would think that Matt probably wouldn't want international status in that way, but I have no idea since I don't know him personally. But to me, I enjoy the fact that he is a "small" Canadian icon because he interacts with his fans on a personal level likely because of that and unlike any who reach heavy international status. So really it makes his music more personal to his fans and simply more fun.

I'd like to meet him someday because I think it would be like meeting someone who's an average person who's successful in his choice of career. Someone to admire for various reasons but not really someone I put on a pedistal anymore now that I have grown out of my crazy teenage years. But I still appreciate his music, writing and him as a person overall.

In the end, I think Matt will remain elusive of popular acclaim, so "national treasure" would be it.
