I was listening to Black Helicopter from Live at Massey Hall today and I can't get over how amazing it is. I think it's better than the album version so I wonder if anyone else likes any of the live songs better than album versions.

I think anything like Blue Skies Over Bad Lands or Suburbia are great live because they're usually extended and sound amazing when the band is freed up from the studio version..

I thought She's In It For The Money, acoustic and band, have both been better live than the album version.

 

I also think I'm A Window off Massey Hall is better than the album version.

Agreed on both, by far.

 

Also, Near Fantastica, Champions, and Avalanche. The same could be said for a lot of his material. As a self-proclaimed perfectionist, I think he puts too much, I don't know if it's the right word, but.. thought into the final product. But the live versions for most of his work have that extra emotion and improvisation that make them that much better.

I heard Advertising on Police Cars live with full band. Enjoyed it.

 

Best concert opening live with full band was Advertising on Police Cars, Avalanche. This happened on July 15, 2005, at Arizona's.

Oh, I dunno. I like the live versions of most of the HM songs, but I think the album versions of Devil's in Your Details and 99% are better.

I really dig that live version of Load Me Up from a few years back that segued into Generation X-Wing. And the version that involved a riff from some old 70s tune...

Oh, Weapon is pretty impressive live too! I really wish he'd do While We Were Hunting Rabbits live.

Couldn't agree more! He wouldn't need an orchestra. He could even do it acoustically if he wanted too, much of the song is driven by his vocals (and the big drum).

 

Tripoli (acoustic, sounds as good or better than the "Rooms" version), Black Helicopter, Fine Art of Falling Apart are better than studio versions off the top of my head. Really love Blue Skies Over Bad Lands, but the CD version is great too.
