I'm actually kind of glad Life in Spite of Itself didn't make the album... I wasn't a huge fan of the demo.

 

On the other hand, I missed out completely on Bad Pennies.

Boooo. I was holding out a little hope it would be a hidden track.

 

I know it's a favourite and I'll probably like the album version a lot better than the original demo but I would almost rather have this than Empty's Theme Park. As I've said, I just found it too long and drawn out. Matt's delivery is pretty drab and monotonous and the song becomes kind of boring. However, I did like the updated version he posted quite a bit more. Still, unless he improved everything a lot more I think it will be too long for its own good.

I like Empty's Theme Park, but the first versions chorus (step right up, there's only a crowd if you hit the ground...) is way better than the second demos.

Can't wait to hear Empty's Theme Park. I agree about the chorus on the first version but the intro and outro on the newer demo was way better

Last Parade was a pretty big step up from the demo so I think it's safe to have high hopes.

Yeah, I think you might be right. Listening to the second demo of ETP again I'd say yeah, it's a pretty big improvement over the original. The whole thing sounds fuller. I don't know if I agree that the first version's chorus is better. I think pretty much everything is better in the second.

Remember how Black Helicopter sounded when he demoed it, and then released it and it was a lot better. I have the same feeling for this album as well. Empty's Theme Park was my favorite demo, and I have high expectations for it on the CD.

I avoided all the demos, so except for Whales & Last Parade this is all new to me. And it was pretty awesome.

As of first listen, favourite = Boy who could explode or silent army, least = Van National anthem.
