The Fall of Man was awesome live ;)

"carmelina", "fall of man", and "under the influence" were played consistantly before the album came out, particularly when they toured around the time of loser anthems. they had played them before loser anthems as well, which is also when "over me" was debuted as an encore number, and later changed to "the fine art of falling apart".

"carmelina", "rat who would be king", "tripoli", "advertising on police cars", and "workers sing a song of mass production" were occasionally performed on his solo tours, moreso the avalanche era tours than the white light, but still occasionally thrown into the mix.

"truffle pigs", "tripoli", "advertising on police cars", and "sort of a protest song" have all been performed on acoustic tours.

leaving only "man of action", "i, the throw away", and "anti-pop" the only songs he has never performed live. although someone said in another thread he started to play "throw away" at one of the acoustic shows ... calgery perhaps.

also, "pony boy", if i'm not mistaken, was written around the era of beautiful midnight, but didn't get recorded until the AoB sessions. the going coastal in the studio special features a part where matt and warne are trying to figure out the guitar part and when matt remembers his opening riff he yells "NOW I REMEMBER" in hilarious fashion (i don't know if it's in the version that's around now, that's 30 minutes, but i am 100% certain it was in the original, hour long version that aired).

the original tracklisting for the album was also 13 songs, and had "all together" right before protest song. i don't know if there was ever a reason given for later removing it.

a little bit of trivia for ya. the band also released an 11 song track listing long before they gave the actual tracklisting. it was all ridiculous titles that i've been trying everywhere to find. all i remember are "blunder bus", "d cup", "orgasmi", and "wings of the samarai".

Matthew: You are correct...actually, the original tracklisting for AOB came with both Pony Boy and All Together listed. It was a 14 track album when we first gave the news.

As far as Blunder Bus, D Cup, Orgasmi, etc, those were jokes that Lenny published (Matt's idea I believe).

And Pony Boy was recorded right after Beautiful Midnight with only Matt and Ian. Then, they re-recorded it during the AOB sessions with everyone and Matt left it off the record because he didn't like that version and thought the old one was better (as read on mg.org).

Daniel: the "original" titles were obviously jokes, but PLEASE tell me you remember them.

"Well Hungarian", "Blunder Bus", "Winds of the Samurai", "Level 12 Elf"

This was the actual titles we had on mgb.com at the time.

Well on mgb.com we only had these four...maybe the other ones were posted by Tyler on runningforhome.net (offline now obviously ;))

Holy crap I remember that! That's awesome ;) I remember thinking, "those are the dumbest song titles ever"

Posted

i remember thinking "how can a song named D-Cup be a ballad?" since he tended to end all his records with a mellower song at that point
